This doctor refused to collaborate with any of my other healthcare providers (who were less than thrilled with her) and went as far as criticizing them. She also accused me of lying about my medication side effects and refused to acknowledge my sleep issues. Eventually I ended up in PHP and learned she'd misdiagnosed me. I promptly switched to another psychiatrist, got diagnosed with a sleep disorder and learned I have a genetic mutation.
Bottom line, her bedside manner is atrocious at best; she may have a lot of medical knowledge but her lack of psych experience is apparent and she will fit your symptoms into her range of comfortable diagnoses only and treat your accordingly. Do not expect to have much input in your treatment plan.

I have been a patient of hers for four years and while I don't always agree with her, she turns out to almost always be right. There are a lot of doctors out there that just prescribe antidepressants and other meds willy-nilly; Dr. Dirienzo actually gathers feedback from her patients so that she knows what dosages of which drugs are effective for different conditions. I belong to an online support group for depression and I can assure you that the advice and information I've gotten from Dr. Dirienzo is far better than that given by most psychiatrists. I tend to change doctors all the time but I've stayed with her for four years because she's been such a huge help to me.

Very unhelpful when I had new onset panic attacks and insomnia.

This Doctor, has no compassion or bed side manor, nor is she a psychiatrist. If you need help, and she thinks you have too many problems then she will reserve the right not to treat you. She knows medicine and how the body works and how medication works but not how compassion or how to deal with people with mental illness. After waiting over an hour (first appt of the day) I left feeling rejected, more depressed when I came in and tossed away like a used tissue. No meds, no treatment, no follow up. Yes I have a mental illness, but that is what I was reaching out for...help...I found no help from her.

I have been seeing this Dr. for a few years. She is excellent! Yes, we have butted heads here and there but you can expect that with someone who is vested in your treatment.I know she has provided me the best treatment! When I show signs of relapse, she wants to see me to discuss and make meds changes if need be. She returns phone calls and is extremely knoweldgable of medications. I find her to be very passionate about her practice. She is not going to hold your hand an pity you, how does that help!? You need to do the work and she will help you. I am educated and she does offer options and we do work together. I know we have a partnership. I have changed primary care Dr. as often as I change my socks. If she was not fantastic I would have left her long ago! Take it from a very sensitive, arguementative person, Dr. DiRienzo is excellent!

The 2nd viewer is right on. I was in tears after I left the office. I wasted 25.00 which I don't have and left me not meds. I believed she only go by the info from 2006 ( from your office) & didn't have the info from my new DR.

She is a good doctor. She listened to what I had to say and helped me out with my treatment.

If you prefer a doctor who will take control of your treatment plan, leaving you with no room to make decisions as to what is right for you, then this is the doctor for you. She is a good doctor for someone who has just been diagnosed with an illness and needs someone to take the reins in designing a treatment plan and telling the patient what to do. She is not a good doctor for someone who is familiar and educated with the illness and medications and who wants to be a participant in his or her own treatment plan. Not a lot of leeway with autonomy with this doctor.
