I had no choice but to see Dr. Sponsler on more than one occasion. On both occasions, he was hurried and as described here by another patient, very unresponsive to questions to the degree he will speak over you mid sentence and not answer questions. I felt as if there were someone else in the room he was speaking to. After telling me I had a severe case and really needed spinal surgery, he referred me to Neuro-Surgeon Curtis Mani who also acted as if I was bothering his busy schedule and who had a COMPLETELY different opinion as he casually only glanced at my MRI's and did not really look them over carefully. I am looking for another opinion now due to both Sponsler's disconnected impersonal manner and the HUGE disparity of opinion I experienced here.

I am a disabled retired Special Needs Teacher, Teacher-Consultant, now working on my own disabilities e.g. I have a auditory-discrimination hearing problem, vestibular difficulties brought on by one or more bacterial infections, one being M. Fermentans Incognitus, and I have lost central vision in my R. eye. Dr. Sponsler identified Peripheral Neuropathy, Median nerve problems, and some significantly bad stuff in my spine. I like that he gives me the choice of having diagnostic MRI's completed at his office or elsewhere. In his office he took time to show me the films and pointed to some things that needed a revisit. Disk copies were readily made and when another clinic temporarily lost them, the Brain Clinic supplied me with others. I appreciate this particular side of his non-bedside, clinical manner. It is important because past MRI tests and readings, completed elsewhere were criticized by another physician. He showed me how the contrast bled outside the target organ. Wow! The difference of opinion between the radiologist and this doctor caused me grief. I had to find another Physician.. not easy in a state where Medicare is not always welcomed. Dr. Sponsler is not a bedside kind of guy. Nevertheless, he had a wonderful bedside kind of PA who filled in the blanks very nicely. To address next step treatments [surgery], Dr. Sponsler twice referred me. I am returning for a long overdue follow-up at the Brain clinic and will come prepared as usual to keep myself and Dr. Sponsler focused on our partnership.

Here's a layout of my appointment.

1 - Seen right away. Excellent punctuality.
2 - Staff was polite.
3 - Doctor was hurried, in a rush.
4 - Doctor asked a number of questions, cut me off mid-response. Interrupted almost everything I had to say.
5 - Terrible bedside manner.
6 - Hesitated in giving medical treatment suggestions.
7 - Notes afterward stated that I -probably- need an extreme life-altering form of surgery to treat my undisclosed issue(s) when the symptoms of my issue are extremely mild and non-life threatening.
8 - Tends to make very hasty decisions without seeing medical records (this was my first visit with him).
