On 2013.11.18, I broke my middle toe on my left foot and went to Sentara Urgent
Care in Newport News. The doctor who saw me there stated that I was fortunate that the break was not through the joint but broke ¼ inch below it. He taped them together and advised me to keep them taped and said that was standard procedure for a broken toe but told me to follow up with Podiatrist Nelson Keller . On my visit, I expressed my concerns to Dr Keller that my toe was rubbing the top of my shoe and he stated that he could lower it with surgery. He never graphically explained in detail exactly what he planned to do other than my toe would be lower and wouldn’t rub my shoe and that I would be in no pain. In surgery he cut right through the middle of the non-broken joint and took that piece out. If he had expressed in detail what he going to cut through my perfectly in-tac joint and take that quarter inch of bone out I would have never ever had surgery. Six weeks after he performed the first surgery on one of my many follow up appointments I said the toe is still high and you made a cut in his office above my toe and it did lower it a little and I asked you why didn’t you do that instead of the first surgery and he stated that the broken toe would never heal but I think it already had because it wasn’t hurting as in when I first broke it. I know from having a broken toe on my right foot in my mid-teens that it would have healed and I have no pain on that toe at all.

Since the first surgery I have been in constant excruciating, chronic pain and went back to visit Keller to ask why am I still in pain and he recommended yet another surgery inserting an in-plant that he said would lessen the pain. He performed that surgery on 2015.05.07 placing an implant in my toe and just like the first surgery the pain only got progressively worse and he saw me until the end of 2015. He has performed two superfluous surgeries that have not done anything other than create constant horrific pain that is twenty times worse than before he ever performed any surgery at all.

On one of my many follow up appointments, he bragged about how he and his fellow students use to cut one another just so they could practice surgically stitching themselves up. Now that is really something to brag about.

On 2016.10.27, I went to Dr. Michael Chung who is a podiatrist with Sentara in Virginia
Beach. Dr. Chung and several other Physicians said that the implant was the cause of the pain and said the implant was floating in my toe and would never stabilize. Casey Jo Humbyrd of John Hopkins showed me the implant in the X-ray and how it was floating. She then appeared to be hyper ventilating and in an extremely loud voice asked me why did Keller perform any surgery in the first place as it was completely unnecessary. I told her that I didn’t know and that I put my faith and trust in him and the result of his unneeded surgery was what I got. Dr. Chung took the implant out and bridge it with my own bone and place a K wire through the toe to hold everything in place. He stated that placing a K wire before any surgeries was the only thing that should have been done in the first place. Dr. Chung has done his best to repair the damage that Keller created and in my opinion was completely unnecessarily for no reason other than for you leach money from my insurance companies for pure greed.

Both surgeries that he performed has left me in horrific, excruciating, chronic pain that doesn’t appear to be getting any better and in my opinion he should be held accountable for what you have done to me and others you have performed surgery on. Recently, I went online to: http://ewsocis1.courts.state.va.us/CJISWeb/circuit.jsp I found not one but three medical mal-practice cases from former patients against him (Please see attached court cases.) I wish I had found these reports before I ever visited his facility. I pray to God that these people are not experiencing the chronic pain and injustice that I am that effect my sleep and concentration while working.
Please do your research before considering this miserable excuse of a Podietrist.

This doctor missed a very well known problem in podiatry and I ended up with severe issues believing what I was told

He was very reluctant to commit to any on going treatment plan and made me wonder what exactly he treated

Someone once told me for pain to skip a podiatrist and go right to orthopedic surgeon, he proves it

That office has many problems

I have been to 3 other doctors in this area, Dr Keller was the only one that could explain the problem, and fix it, he was excellent and staff is great. I had no problems booking appointment and Dr Keller exceeded my expectations

Tried to make an appt but the receptionist was rude. She would not answer a service related inquiry and referred me to another employee not available. I hope you have better luck than I did. I wonder how many patients this doctor loses to this rude person? Are they all like that?
