I wanted to leave this review after seeing the negatives (I looked at them out of curiosity when I recommended him to a friend). I've been seeing Dr. Liebowitz for about two years now. I understand people's first impressions, when I first saw him he did seem uninterested, and he only took the notes of the counselor to try to diagnose me. I think people have a hard time understanding that diagnosing mental disorders can be challenging. After about a year and some time playing with medications, he finally figured out an appropriate diagnosis based partially on how I reacted to the medicines. He also had me have a blood test done, and found some 'red flags' that may have contributed to my symptoms, and suggested OTC supplements to my medications. When I questioned his final diagnosis (he said that I am on a spectrum of BPD and bipolar), he was more than willing to show me literature to show why he felt this way, and I mean peer reviewed articles, not self help books. It took him a little bit to warm up, I'll admit, and he does act very passive at first, but after going through trials, he really showed that he wanted to get to the bottom of this. He also is concerned about long term help and how it affects you. He asks how you feel in depth at each appointment and adjusts medications appropriately (it took me until only a few months ago to find what works, but that's incredibly common, it's not an overnight thing!), and he so far has refused to put me on anti-psychotics until we tried every other option because he doesn't want me to be on medicines with such side/long term effects if I absolutely do not have to be. Honestly, I understand the first impressions, but I encourage you to be patient, because he has helped me beyond belief. Also understand that he is not the counselor, he is the prescriber. He WILL listen, but he's not there to talk to you for an hour, that's why they have you see the counselors first. As of the money hungry comments, the office staff is incredibly helpful, and they work with me and my insurance swimmingly. They don't pester for payment. I found myself unable to pay a bill or two within a month, and they asked me to just pay it before my next appointment (three months away), and they weren't upset about it, the understood. It's easy to overlook positive reviews when you see so many negatives, and the first impression could definitely be better, but in the long run, he is a great doctor.
