So Far So Good, I started seeing Dr. O about a month ago after going though what I thought was major anxiety/ ansomnia issues for about a year which my PCP prescribed antidepressants. After a year of going though many of the regulars zo/ pro, Finally after doing much reading, i requested that my thyroid be checked due to a long family history. Sure enough, the PCP told me that I had subclinical hyperthyroidism which didnt require treatment.... I demanded to see an endocrinologist and ended up getting an appt with Dr. O, He did another lab draw to find me to having severe hyperthyriodism, He wasnt as much concerned with the numbers though, more with how I felt, and I told him that I wanted him to treat me and not the labs, so here I am, one month into treatment and feeling the best I have in years. Dr O. took the time to explain everything to me, including a 45 min phone conversation about treatment options and let me ultimately decide exactly what I wanted to do. Thanks Dr. O!

My hormone levels have always been either low or on the low side of normal. I did a lot of research on hormone deficiencies and HRT - Dr. Oppenheim seemed offended that I had some knowledge of hormones. Even though I'd read several books on the subject he chose to belittle me for also getting informatin from the internet. He completely discounted my symptoms and it took some debate to get him to request labs (which were odd enough to require an MRI). I found Dr. Oppenheim to be arrogant, condescending, disrespectful and without concern for the patient. I was left with the distinct impression is that any diagnosis would be made without considering symptoms.

Although I had read several books and Internet articles on thyroid conditions and treatment, he dismissed my knowledge and questions that I had about my treatment and made me feel that I was wasting his time.

Dismissed my concerns and family history, didn't listen to what I wanted. I felt he would inherently disagree with anything I said in order to establish his dominance over the situation. rude and condescending.

He listened to all my issues and addressed them by how I FELT and NOT on lab results alone which is very important as other doctors did not and that approach made all the difference. He explains things very clearly and thoroughly. His office staff is very efficient and returns calls promptly.

Did not acknowledge my symptoms as relevant. Spent the entire office visit typing on the computer instead of listening to my concerns. Focused too much on concrete facts (i.e. lab results) instead of overall patient well being.
