I chose Dr Beaty for upper and lower blepharoplasty and we spoke about exactly what my expectations were and he said he could provide. Unfortunately, what I received was a botched surgery. I had many issues early on. Stitches pulled too tightly in my left eye, not enough fat was removed in my top lid and uneven and blotchy texture in the lower lid (We talked about redistributing fat in the lower lid) Since there was nothing he could do about the tightness from the stitches, I just let that go. He removed the missed fat in the upper lids and injected hyalourandais in the lower to break up the fat, or redistribute it. I saw results immediately after the injection, the same day. Whatever was in that area, was gone. I was suspect about this product, so I Googled. I found that hyalourandais is, primarily, used to dissolve fillers, within 24-48 hrs. I brought this up to him and he denied using them. Whatever was in that area, was gone, the next day, and in the area he injected it. I let it go (for now), because I knew only time will tell once the rest wore off (in which they did). Although, this dissolved some areas, this area was still had a problem with unevenness and blotchiness. He agreed to laser the lower area, but after the first treatment, I knew this was not going to correct the problems, so I stopped. Also, there was an area on my right eye that was hollow, due to an accident that he agreed to transfer fat. I noticed that the area was not completely filled, and I brought this up to him, he noticed, said it was ok, but It wasn’t. I suspected fillers in this area too, but, again, let it go (for now), and wait for them to wear off (in which they did). I, also, noticed early on that my eyes were not completely closing (at the lash line) when I would lay down. I didn’t bring this up, and I regret that.
It’s been roughly 1 year since my last consult, and now that all the dust has settled with my surgery and the fillers have dissolved, I have a much clearer picture.
He pulled too much skin from the top lids. The pinched skin from the stitches being pulled too tight, has subsided a little, but still noticeable (to me). He removed too much skin on the top lids. My eyes do not look natural and eyes still don’t close completely. The left eye creeps open when I’m on my back, so I have to sleep on my left side if I want my eyes to stay shut. The lower lids are still blotchy and uneven and my eyes look hollow and dark. Since the fillers have dissolved on the lower lids, I can see where he put the fat. It wasn’t distributed at all, it’s only in one part of the eyes. You can clearly see where he put it. This is what is causing the blotchiness and unevenness. He took too much fat from my tear troughs and now the area is dark and hollow. The filler (which was supposed to be fat) from the hollow area from the accident, has completely dissolved, and it’s hollow once again.
I decided it was time for another consult. I had high hopes of some type of resolution, because the mistakes are obvious. I believed his mind was made up before he walked in the door. He didn’t bring in the pictures they took when I showed up and thought if he was really interested in discussing my concerns, he would’ve had in hand, before and after pictures for reference. I had to point on my face where the issues were. He listened and proceeded to tell me that surgery was done correctly. We, respectfully, went around and around, however, there was no convincing him otherwise. It was clear he was not interested in taking any more responsibility nor holding himself accountable for any more of the mistakes that were made. He did say he would “help” me by recontouring the bottom lids, but charge ME for the surgery. I told him I shouldn’t have to pay for his mistakes. (Why charge me for a revision surgery after he just told me the surgery was done correctly?) In the same breath, he recanted his offer and proceeded to tell me he couldn’t help me.
