I went for a routine eye exam and clearly told the front desk staff before making the appointment that I only wanted a basic exam eye exam. When I went for the appointment, I reiterated that I was there for only a basic routine eye exam that would be covered by my insurance under preventative care. I had to wait for 30 minutes and my appointment went for an hour and 15 minutes or so. They said they will do a fundus photography, I asked if this will be at additional cost, the doctor did not say anything. Since I already communicated with front office that I do not want to pay anything other than what my insurance pays for free routine eye exam, I assumed this would be covered. To my surprise, i got an initial bill ~250, I called and told them I was expecting this to be insurance covered. They then sent a second bill ~160, again I called and disputed. They were rude and asked me to settle it with insurance. The insurance lady was super helpful and put me and them on line at the same time and explained what I was thinking from the beginning (same information i explained to the doctor's office staff) . Then I got a third bill (~$40), with partial charges for fundus photography. Apparently this was a form I signed (I agree its my fault to have not looked at every detail in the paper work they provide, but I thought I stated my requirement very clearly about free regular eye check up). I felt cheated, but the office wont take it off because I signed and agreed to pay this amount. Just because they have a fancy equipment, they want to use it on patients and provide surprise charges? Very disappointed with them. I will end up paying this amount, but will not go back and would caution people who do go there to watch out with care for billing.
