Dr. Irwin is brilliant and stays up with current research. She had good ideas to manage my treatment resistant diagnoses. However, her office policies are unreasonably strict and authoritarian. If you are late for one appointment, you are fired. The reason or intention does not seem to matter. This is not patient-centered care, and it breaks any trust that has been built between provider and patient. Recommend looking elsewhere for mental health care that includes compassion and a human approach.

I went in to Dr. Irwin's office, expecting to meet with her. I never met with her once over the months I spent here. The nurse I was placed with never collected a full medical history. I explained the past medications I had been on and the problems I had with them. The person I was meeting with asked me "okay what medication would you like to try?" Quite frankly, isn't their job to recommend medications to you based on your symptoms? I don't know anything about these medications. My final visit there, the person I had been meeting with prescribed me a medication I had told her I hated because there "were no other options for me" Even though there are countless medications that treat mental health issues. I never filled the prescription, and will never return to this facility.

As a medical student I started experiencing mental health issues. I decided to seek professional care at Dr. Irwin's practice. My first visit lasted about 10 minutes. This visit consisted of an extremely inadequate gathering of my medical history and a bewildering dialogue about the treatment option. I left feeling extremely unsatisfied in the care I had received. My visit lacked some of the very most basic things that are taught early on in medical school. I received a very large bill following my visit... Several months went by, and I was still having severe mental health issues so my psychologist suggested that I may need medication. Reluctantly, I returned to Irwin's practice. During this visit I was asked exactly zero questions after I explained why I was back. I was told that Dr. Irwin doesn't like to write prescriptions for the type of medication I thought I might need. I asked if the nurse practitioner could speak with Dr. Irwin directly to see if she could evaluate my situation. I was told no, and given the name of another psychiatrist. I wasn't even screened for anything.... A history wasn't taken. I felt devastated because I desperately needed help. I asked if my 5 minute visit was still going to be billed at full price. I was then sent to deal with the office manager who was extremely rude, and insisted my visit was still subject to full billing. It makes me sad that there are practices that treat patients in this manner. Once I establish my own practice I will ensure that the type of shortcomings I experienced with Dr. Irwin's practice are never experienced by my patients.

Dr Irwin has helped me overcome many problems and listens to my problems as well as monitoring my meds well. She has improved my quality of life for the past ten years and I have recommended her to friends and family.

I had seen about 10 psychiatrists before Dr. Irwin--all with major issues except maybe Donna Hill who I'm not sure still works at her office.Even after seeing 3 new docs, Dr. Irwin remains my favorite. She is very laid back, balanced, centered, level-headed, confident, and competent. She might laugh a bit.She might give you the "you need to hear this" look.I called her after not being able to see her soon enough after I had to go inpatient. She made time to see me that day, so I was really happy she did that. The last time I saw her I spent more time with her than usual and I was even more impressed. She's had a lot of experience in the field--a true expert often with some simple solutions.Very knowledgeable about social/abuse dynamics,it seems. She's raised concerns about my finances, relationships, career and living to my full potential.Never want to change docs.Trust her 100%.She is very supportive and has almost become an aunt figure.Fam wants to make my decisions. She knows I am capable.

Dr. Irwin is great overall. She is very honest and very intuitive and you may feel like she's reading your mind. She can be a little forgetful, but she is not the kind of doctor who will overdrug you. If you seem knowledgable about what you want (or even if you don't, I'm not one of them), she will listen to you and likely prescribe that medication. If you have stopped taking your pills, she will want to know why and see if there's a better option. She does not get mad at you if you stop taking your pills (very unlike any psychiatrist I've been to). She takes everything seriously and I know other people who see her, and she has had to give people some "tough love" when they need it. I strongly recommend her. She is hardly ever late. Do not see Dr. Bowers in her clinic. The others might be okay, but Irwin is the best.
