I went to see Dr McDonnell for help with severe menopause symptoms. She literally knows nothing about menopause.

I said I’m in menopause and I asked for help with really bad symptoms. . She says I’m not in menopause since I’m still spotting, and there’s nothing she can do until I actually stop any periods altogether. … the symptoms are because I’m in the process of stopping my periods! How does she not know how menopause works??

I ask about hrt, and she says that’s not done until after all spotting has stopped. I asked about birth control pills then, to help keep the estrogen levels steady. She said birth control pills won’t address any of my symptoms.

Then she says the spotting makes her concerned and she wants to do a D&C and an internal ultrasound and pelvic exam. All invasive procedures. That she’s totally willing to do expensive invasive procedures.

When i say no she tells me I might want to go see a therapist.

Let that sink in.

She tells me: I might want to go see a therapist.

I literally just got gaslit by an obgyn. She made me feel stupid and crazy.

She is irresponsible and a nightmare and how does she not know how menopause works???

I called the office to complain. The person who answered the phone was kind and sympathetic. No one in authority ever called me back though. Instead I got a letter in the mail saying if I don’t do the procedures she recommends and it turns out I have cancer it’s not her fault.

That’s the second truly bad experience I’ve had with a doctor at this practice.

I will never go back there and I wouldn’t trust Dr McDonnell to treat a paper cut. I mean that from the bottom of my heart.

Dr. McDonnell is a witch. She doesn't really listen to your concerns and treats you as a run of the mill patient. Worse, she is very pessimistic, cherry picking everything that MIGHT go wrong with my healthy pregnancy and trying to emotionally manipulate you when you disagree or ask too many questions. She wouldn't disclose her c-section rate, pretending she doesn't calculate it (this is the standard answer when it is abnormally high). She made me stressed and unhappy about a pregnancy that was very easy, healthy and much wanted. STAY AWAY!

Dr. McDonnell always runs late. You have to wait more than an hour for her and when she finally sees you, she spends less than 5 minutes with you during your appointment. She doesn't listen to your concerns or pay attention to what you are asking. She is always rushing! "I'm Sorry. I'm running late. I have 5 more patients to attend. You have to make an appointment and come back" was the answer I always got when I asked her questions. I always came back home with lot of unanswered questions. During my long waits, I noticed most of her patients are actually another doctors' patients in that group who couldn't get immediate appointments with their own doctors. I found a new doctor and I DON'T RECOMMEND HER TO ANYBODY!!

Dr. McDonnell is okay, but her staff is mind-numbingly incompetent. My last visit I waited for over 2 and a half hours with no explanation or apology. While I waited I watched three other patients treated dismissively and rudely. They have forgotten to call in my prescriptions, screwed up my appointments, and given me the runaround countless times. If the doctor was amazing I'd probably bear it, but she's nothing special. I am finding a new doctor. I'd rather pay full price and go to planned parenthood.
