After a long well diagnosed medical history, I saw Dr. Bickerstaff because of an obviously bad recommendation. The absolute worst GI doctor I have ever seen. Very Condescending and did not bother to even listen or look at my abdomen. Just ordered expensive inconclusive tests and did nothing but refer me back to the ER. What a waste of a medical license. He's fired.

Dr. Bickerstaff has always been a caring and brilliant doctor of his field and diagnoses other conditions with the utmost accuracy. You never have to wait once you arrive in his office and he is never in a hurry to get you out. He actually listens to what is going on with your body. He is a kind, compassionate and gentle man who cares for man and every living creature on this earth. The patients that truly know Dr. B. know he is not what the press and the idiots below are saying. His dogs were his children! He answered what was to be a ten minute emergency call at the hospital on his way to His Mt. Pleasant office, because he is a kind and caring doctor, which ran longer than he thought. We are not to be his judge, only God can do that, " Let him that is without sin, cast the first stone". Which one of you has NEVER done anything wrong, ANYTHING!!! We all make mistakes, even in the best of circumstances. Like I said, these were his children. He is grieving harder than any of you, that doesn't make him a bad doctor, just one that got caught in a circumstance beyond his control. I love you Dr. B. and nothing will lessen my respect for you. I am praying for you and Dr. and Dr. M. daily and know that I stand behind you and with you. Your FRIEND and patient, EML

My experience was very much like the above. My major complaint was intermittent abdominal pain and Dr. B recommended a colonoscopy. I thought my symptoms were more like diverticulitis but what do I know? As I suspected, the colonoscopy showed nothing to explain the pain I described. I still have the pain but as long as I avoid high-fat food and alcohol I seem to be okay. Money was demanded up front: same day for consultation fee; at least 72 hours in advance for Dr. B's services for procedure. (Our credit rating is around 800 and my spouse, whose insurance I use, is employed by a highly reputable local company. Definitely felt money was the object, not care.) Over $300 was refunded some months (and several requests) later as "overpayment" after insurance discount/payments were applied. Felt like a deadbeat and still don't know what's wrong. Will not be using this dr. or Roper/St. Francis again. Of course, this is only my personal opinion, your mileage may differ.

I had to listen to his secretary at the mount pleasant office babble about clients over the phone. Then the doctor finally saw me. He did listen to me for ample time, but did not palpate or check me for tenderness. He ordered a procedure and told me that once the results were back, if the test was negative he could then write me something for my severe pain. (which i was in tears from.) I managed to have the procedure done that day, and the other doctor called Dr. Bickerstaff before the office closed with my detailed results. They were in fact negative, and Bickerstaff refused to prescribe anything dispite what he had told me. When I confirmed that I could come back to the office to pick the Rx up, he stuttered and finally said to call the referring physician if i wanted something. I was OUTRAGED!! The whole reason you see a specialist is b/c the primary doctor deems it necessary. I missed work, and was in tears about to return to the ER, AGAIN...when my wonderful Gynocolgist Dr. S
