In short, the doctor would like to reverse medication I was put on by a top notch doc in my prior city - a medication I came to be on after a lengthy methodology to find the right medication. His explanation for this change, "I don't prescribe this medication to any of my other patients." After reflexion, he uses a heavy hand to keep his patients from taking great medications that include a possible trade-off......all medications have risks, and only for a small percent of patients, btw. The doctor also troubled me to see him despite my complex medical history - which he admits he has no history managing a patient with such global medical needs. Dr. Gierke has also been unable to keep up with the care he has provided to me, forgetting medications he's prescribed and so on. If you have simple neuro needs Dr. Gierke appears to be fine. If you need a world class doctor or one who stays up on your file and is a patient advocate, he's not for you.

I saw Dr Gierke for treatment of a movement disorder while pregnant. At first, he was easy to talk to and understanding of a tough situation-having few medication options while pregnant and taking meds that I wasn't fully comfortable with. At my last visit, his demeanor changed. He was sarcastic and disrespectful, and insinuated that my OB wasn't aware of the medication I was taking, which was untrue. He reduced the amount of medication I had been taking for months and rather give me time to wean down or talk to me about how to manage the change in the privacy of the exam room, he walked out of the room and I had to follow him to ask more. We ended up standing at the checkout desk, with other patients and doctors and I tried to ask how to manage the change in medication. He refused, simply said "You'll be fine" and left. This is no way to treat a patient’s privacy. It is also particularly dangerous to leave a pregnant woman without enough medication, which is what happened in the end.
