Dr. Southwell is professional, knowledgeable, and personable. He has treated me for at 2 years for chorea and most recently restless leg syndrome. He diagnosed my sleep apnea with need of nocturnal oxygen. He takes his time and explains as much as you need to comprehend the information given.

Condescending, dismissive & arrogant. He could be the best neurologist ever, but totally not worth putting up with lack of empathy or common decency towards another human being. And don’t even dare question his methods of dealing with your health issues. Big mistake. Enough said. Go elsewhere.

Dr Southwell was rude, took me off my medication (cold turkey) which caused me to become violently ill. I called my PCP and she told me to go back on the medication and she also referred me to a different neurologist. Dr. Southwell is arrogant, crass, and lacked knowledge of my condition. Run!!!

He was horrible. The last time I saw hims he said, " there's really nothing more I can do for you. Good luck" and went to shake my hand while I cried. So cold and uncaring. Definitely acted like he had better things to do. At my first visit he left the room to yell at workmen trying to fix the air conditioning. Visceral reaction to this doctor - would not recommend to anyone and if you get "established" with him at KUMed, now you have to be "released" by him when you want to see a different neurologist. Infuriating.

Dr. Southwell did a great job of explaining what the causes of my condition could be. He didn't rush through everything like a lot of doctors I've seen. He is personable, knowledgeable and thorough. No problems with the administration of my EMG.

I have seen other neurologist at KU whom I felt were knowledgeable and concerned about my medical condition. Dr. Southwell does not fit in the standard of the manarizam I have experienced from any doctor at KU. He was rude and arrogant. I have PCS and some other issues that require time for processing and to communicate. As a Neurologist and have my record in front of him this should of be a difficult thing but it was by far the worse experience I have had with any doctor. I would not recommend him at all.

On Thursday,of July 2017.Dr James l south well do. Seemed rude.would hear my problems.he acted drunk and tryed to hit me in the face a few times. He smelled bad.

I would recommend Dr. Southwell. I have Pseudo Tumor Cerebri which is a rare condition. He was very thorough and took time to explain everything to me. I was scheduled for further testing the day of my appointment and he made sure I was scheduled for a follow-up even though his office said he was not available. I did get a small lecture about the seriousness of my condition and that I should go to the ER with any changes in symptoms instead of ignoring my symptoms.

Most painful EMG ever. Rude doctor. As a medical professional myslef, I expect much more & was not confident in his knowledge, abilities, or judgement. Do yourself a favor & find a different provider.
