I agree with other posters that Dr. Guastella Anderson’s 3-day cancellation policy is completely unreasonable. It is very narcissistic of him to think his time and money is more important than anyone else’s. If you get sick within 3 days of the appointment and can’t make it, you’ll have to pay his full fee. Which by definition means you always pay because when you get sick it’s typically the first few days that are the worst. And 3 days ahead you can’t predict if you’ll feel better by the 3rd day. Completely unfair & unreasonable. He doesn’t care about fairness and will even tell you he has a long waiting list if you’re not happy which is an uncaring person’s response. I’ve never met another doctor with such a one-sided policy. He feels he can mistreat you because he’s popular, so his morals in life are basically lousy. If he has such a waiting list then I’m sure there’s plenty he can do with some unexpected spare time, to the benefit of his vast client base. I bet at any given time a number of clients and prospective clients are waiting for a call back from him. Instead, he takes money from his already suffering patients after having done nothing for them that day. It’s called gouging your customers to increase unfairness due to increase in customer base, especially because switching therapists is hard to do. A therapist and even just a decent person should care about others more than that and as they rake it in, not be so greedy/unfair/selfish, can you tell I’m ticked off about this? I’ll stop now.
On other fronts, don’t go to him for ADHD because he has no idea whatsoever what the issues are associated with it and how to help at all. Especially non-hyperactive. He does not even pay any attention to it. Any attempts to get help with it reach dead ends. I’ve done better just inventing ways to deal with it and googling. I resent that because I tried, and he fancies himself to be knowledgeable about it. He should outsource you to someone else if that is your issue. It’s not a rocket science to dole out methylphenidate or similar stimulants and titrate them for a particular patient, that’s only half the solution.
He also can be late to appointments and will expect you to deal with it yet if you are even a little late he docks you the time. Pretty one-sided, and again, selfish.
He can be nice and helpful in some areas but primarily areas he’s interested in. If he’s not interested he can space out. I’ve seen him
do this a lot and pretends not to have spaced yet if I repeat what I was saying he doesn’t notice it’s a repeat. Probably dreaming about his Yacht or
something.
He also believes in some hocus pocus things that make me second guess him. I won’t get into that too much because to each his own, and I guess it’s touching in a way like when a kid believed in Santa, but as smart as he is, he sometimes believes some unbelievable things, and I wonder who’s hands am I putting my trust into.
He’s flexible & effective with medicine and gives you some autonomy in deciding what you need which is great as long as you know what you need. But psychopharm-only therapy is not his favorite thing to do.
I hope this information will help Dr. Guastella Anderson improve his view from a patient perspective because he could be really great if he’d have more of a heart and remember that many of his patients are actually suffering. Some things that he does can be really hurtful. And just because he has a waiting list shouldn’t mean that he doesn’t care what effect he has on people’s lives. I hope he can look at himself in the mirror and see a more generous spirit one day.

He has a three day cancellation policy which can be tough if something comes up even a day before, and his fees are very high. But he is knowledgeable and was helpful, but I've written to his e-mail (which he told me was the best way to contact him) and he has never once written me back. He told me to write to cancel appointments since the e-mails go right to his blackberry and it must be 3 days ahead, and he does charge otherwise. Hard to get a hold of him, and he only works a few days a week, but he was smart, nice, and was fine with the prescriptions I was already taking. If that had been a problem, than I think I would have given a 0! Nice, but costly, and doesn't answer e-mails basically!
