The desk made an appointment for me. They asked me what kind of insurance I had. I told them Blue Shield PPO. When I got there, the elevator was broken. Mind you, this is an orthopedic surgeon. Patients cannot go up and down stairs. Many of the patients were walking up and you could see how hard it was for them One of the patients had a walker and the doctor agreed to come to another doctors office that was downstairs to see that patient. They had told me to come about half an hour early so I could fill out paperwork before my appointment. I asked if they could fax it to me so it would be ready. They never did so I was there 40 minutes early. The office left me waiting for 25 minutes. They seemed be annoyed for my asking them to give me the paperwork so that I could start filling out. They gave me the paperwork, asked for my insurance card and said they could not accept covered California even though it's Blueshield and PPO. So I had to go home without seeing the doctor.

A metal part in my father's year-old hip replacement came loose - we had xrays showing it was the joint itself, but wouldn't know for sure until surgery. My dad had to walk holding his hip, so the part wouldn't move too much and poke through the skin. Dr. Shah couldn't see him for two weeks. I sent an email demanding that my dad be seen, threatening to call a lawyer and the state because it clearly seemed like malpractice. Dr. Shah's office told me to go find another doctor. WE DID. The new doctor understood the emergency situation, saw my dad that very day, and he had successful surgery a few days later. We were shocked at the uncaring attitude of Dr. Shah and his office staff.

Rediculous office policy made recovery and appointments difficult. Once surgery is done there is no follow up. I would not refer this surgeon even thought I believe he is a skilled surgeon.
