I saw Dr. Simmons twice for a piece of glass in my foot. Upon my 1st visit he took a limited time to listen to what happened to me and seemed unthrilled. We pinpointed what we thought was the spot of entry but instead of removing the object,he explained that if it was a certain TYPE of glass, it should show up on an ultrasound. He then ordered one for the next week in a location accross town. It is diffucult for me to get time off of work and making another appt. for this was bothersome. Anyway, I went to have the ultrasound the following week. I then had to wait ANOTHER 2 weeks for the reading by Dr. Simmons! 3rd trip: Simmons came into the room, then told me that he could not see anything on the US and there was nothing he wanted to do with my foot at that point. This is dumb, he already said that only certain types of glass will show up on an US. Sooooooooo....basically, THREE TRIPS and $500.00 later....I still have a piece of glass in my foot! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND DR. SIMMONS!

In podiatry it is very important that a physician be able to recognize a potential diagnosis of RSD or inflammatory arthritis and refer the patient to a proper specialist, especially when treatment is not working. Diagnosing RSD early is the only means of potentially curing this extremely painful and debilitating disease. Symptoms vary from person to person and at different times during the course of the disease. A patient in continual pain, even one who has no visible signs of RSD, may be a victim. Symptoms of RSD often start in the feet and hands, many present without any obvious signs of the disease, but experience unusual and extreme pain with weightbearing, walking, etc. Xrays may show osteopenia, definitely a sign of RSD. Error on the side of caution, take patients seriously, refer patients if there is even a question of RSD, early treatment is the only cure.

Dr didn't seem to take complaints seriously, such as swelling in feet and ankles (denied swelling), and burning sensation on bottom of foot (said due to muscle fatigue), foot cramps, fasticulations, and blue color on soles of feet when sitting with legs down (ascribed to raynaud's and dismissed). By the way I have developed osteopenia as a result of disuse due to pain, and have lost my job of 10 years because I couldn't stand for very long. Dr. prescribed a very expensive rigid orthotic that was too painful to use for my high arched foot, no shock absorption. Dr. never ordered an mri. As a whole I found the doctor indifferent and completely unhelpful.
