He performed lasik monovision surgery in 2015 and gave me far vision in both eyes instead of one for far vision and one for reading, as I had when I was wearing contact lenses. I had explicitly requested monovision, but didn't get it, and I needed another lasik operation to get it. In 2020, I had cataract surgery scheduled for both eyes, but when he performed the first surgery, instead of getting reading vision at arm's length, I got reading that was in focus at one foot away. I complained about this and he re-did the surgery on the eye, and now I can see very well using that eye. The fact that he made mistakes twice does not instill much confidence in him.

The surgical coordinator assigned to me (Vanessa Cortez) never answered the phone and never returned calls when I left a message. The quality of a doctor's staff reflects on the doctor and this tells me that he is not careful at all.

Dr Donnenfeld is simply the best! Ever wonder who eye surgeons trust to take out their cataracts? Dr Donnenfeld!!
Being an ophthalmologist I had unlimited options. I have to admit it was a little intimidating being the patient and not the doctor. I did extensive research to chose the right surgeon. (i knew if i had even a small complication i could be out of work)

I live and practice in New Jersey and felt so strongly about Dr Donnenfeld's credentials that i travelled to long island to be evaluated. I didn't play the "doctor card". i just made an appointment like every other patient and went thru the complete evaluation. When it came time to discuss the actual operation i did disclose i was an eye surgeon.
After meeting with Dr Donnenfeld the choice was a no brainer. I had complete trust in him and his staff.
I am the HAPPIEST patient!!! Everything went perfect. I chose to have laser cataract surgery with some astigmatism correction. My vision is awesome. I couldn't believe how great it was on day 1 and it keeps getting better! The staff at the office and the surgery center was superb both friendly and professional.
I give Eric Donnenfeld my highest unconditional recommendation! Simply the best. If you want to go where the eye surgeons go for their cataract surgery...Eric Donnenfeld MD!!! The Best!!!!

Dr. Donnenfeld did my lasik surgery in 2001. I was a fan. Last month he performed cataract surgery on both eyes. He placed the wrong lens in my left eye. Had I not been proactive DURING my procedure on the right eye, I stopped him from putting the same diopter as the left, I would have bad vision in both eyes today. Post op I had debilitating astigmatism, literally seeing double. Two weeks after the procedure on the right eye he made cuts in my cornea which did result in significant improvement. My issues with this surgeon are not about the outcome per se although it is a shame that my vision has to be so poor in one eye when it could and should have been better. My issue is with his response to his mistake. His motto is definitely that the best defense is to practice aggressive offense. His ego is beyond huge. I think that because he is used to so much success that when he does have a less than ideal outcome and a patient who might be upset, disappointed, or questioning he literally becomes enraged. His answers to any questions about what he says, no matter how quietly or politely phrased resulted, at least in my case, in an attack on me personally. He actually explained why he doesn't like me, used the words 'what's wrong with you' and similar language. These are my eyes, this is my vision. I'm sitting in an exam room, my eyes hurt, my left eye is practically useless, I'm understandably less than elated and his response is to tell me what's wrong with me? I'm telling you- it was horrendous.
I don't know what to say to you if you are considering him. He does more of these types of surgeries than anyone, he has good skill and success in a lot of instances. Any surgical procedure is risky and things can go wrong. My feeling is that the true measure of a great physician is how they handle those situations. Dr. Donnenfeld and his staff fall very short.

My wife was suffering from ectasia, keratoconus, and pellucid corneal deterioation. Her vision was rapidly getting worse and required immediate attention. She underwent a proceedure known as collagen cross linking; which is routinely done in 33 other countries but is still pending FDA approval in the US. In addition she needed to have corneal inserts placed into both eyes. Everything went extreemly well and my wife is still convellessing two week after, but is doing fine and is much improved. If you need the aforementioned proceedures performed I would strongly suggest that you use the Opthalmic Consultants of Long Island and Dr Donnenfeld. I have been a registered pharmacist in NY State for 46 years and can assure anyone I thoroughly reviewed the credentials and qualifications of all the physicians who could perform the work my wife needed. I have been married for 48 years and I was not about to let just anyone take on the responsibility of protecting my wife's vision.

Dr. Donnenfeld performed mono-vision lasik surgery on both of my eyes. Within three months the results started to revert back. I was scheduled to have a retreat and arrived for my appointment. Dr. Donnenfeld told me he changed his mind and would not do the retreat! I have ongoing sight issues since the surgery. I have no night vision as a result of the surgery and was never told this could happen. I have since been examined by another opthamologist who told me that my original precription for glasses was so insignificant that lasik SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN PERFORMED! I also had eyelid issues as a result of the lasik surgery and Dr. Donnenfeld sent me to another doctor who turned out to be part of his practice to keep the business within the same practice rather than send me to the proper physician. His staff is very difficult to deal with and keep him protected. My sight is ruined for the rest of my life because of unnecessary lasik. I was not a candidate and he should have been honest!
