I'm a woman and prefer a female doctor. Dr. Vanarsdale was so helpful not only with my psychiatric medicines but also medicines I need as a woman. She is very smart and referred me to a physical specialists and solved a problem I had for over 20 years. What a blessing Dr. V has been for me.

Van Arsdale can't keep appointments straight she has no staff and is constantly messing up appointments and scheduling 2-4 patients at a time. Wait times are often well over 1 hour for a scheduled appointment. Not isolated either. I asked other patients and this is always the case. Very difficult to schedule appointments only to wait for three other people to be seen ahead of you. Waste. Of. Time. Go elsewhere.

Dr. Van Arsdale helped me tremendously. She is very prompt in her response to phone calls, takes time to listen to you at your appointment (never felt rushed) and is very knowledgeable. She does seem to favor using medications, but does so in conjunction with talk therapy. I've seen several psychiatrists over the years and felt that she was very competent and helful. She seems a bit abrasive at first, but is actually quite warm and caring.

I was her patient for about 2 years. She's convinced that medication is to be seen like a vitamin for people who's chemistry is off. She over medicates; medicates for every symptom really. She is very very emotionally smart-she articulates complex emotion and can connect and understand dark places/real pain. but she doesn't really give you a chance to try life style changes, or different eating habits first. medication is her go to. when she sets her mind on a diagnosis she's stubborn in sticking to it. but again she's very intelligent so its hard to not believe what she's telling you. if you have tried everything else, she's a good person to go to, but if you're still exploring yourself and whats wrong with you i don't recommend going to see her because you deserve to find a more holistic way of healing. i highly recommend coastal acupuncture in ventura; get a hair test its expensive but worth it. he tests your toxin levels and explains why your body and mind are acting the way they do

If you want someone who won't mess around, who will definitely give it to you straight, she might be for you. If you don't have a schedule you need to adhere to, and you're willing to wait up to 20 minutes after your appointment time to be seen, and you're okay with the appointment running long, she might be for you. However, this woman can be very stubborn and very difficult in certain aspects. She's not flexible, she is not understanding of certain circumstances, she adheres to her own rules and guidelines strictly. She seems competent medically but after 3 visits, a SNAFU with the insurance, and her refusal to refill my medication that is running out, I won't be seeing her again.

It took 3 visits and a couple chats for me to understand that a two - three hour office wait was standard.Dr. Vanarsdale helps whoever stands up first! Seriously, not according to scheduled appointment. No follow-up care unless you initiate through texting. (no calls) Dr. can be polite and pleasant in person, after care is a whole different story. Interestingly the pharmacy I go to said Dr. Vanarsdale is very rude, they prefer they do not have to call her for anything. If your considering Dr. VanArsdale for something as important as psychiatry you should really keep looking.
