I went to Dr Krompier after I got fed up with my previous psychiatrist who was insanely terrible at scheduling (the last time, I waited over 2 hrs), had a dirty office and would sometimes spend a total of 3 minutes with me. I think he was an old hippie who smokes dope. He encouraged me to attend his group sessions (which had over 30 attendees) which left me even more depressed and frustrated than when I went in. He charged the same for 1-on-1 sessions as group, so he made a lot more money shoehorning patients into group sessions. Dr Krompier is just the opposite: he's extremely punctual, very organized and professional, and his office is immaculate. If you need touchy-feely, he's not your guy (and as someone else commented, he's not a therapist and recommends talk therapy in addition to what he does, which is work with the medical issues surrounding your illness). If you need a consumate professional MD, he's excellent. If you need to hash out your issues, go to a therapist.

My husband had an amazing doctor we saw for his bipolar and when he retired he gave us a recommendation for Krompier so we expected them to be similar in how they practiced. But we were wrong. I don't think he is a bad or incompetent doctor, but he isn't every friendly either. Krompier didn't ask many probing questions. Just 2 or 3 basic generic ones. And when I asked questions, voiced concerns or ask for clarification I got short clinical responses. Since I wasn't the patient I guess he didn't like me being so involved. (despite the fact that I explained the situation, and was very quite, respectful, and was non interrupting during my husbands session) He was knowledgeable but wasn't ever good at answering questions in a way that was understandable or satisfactory to me.

Krompier is my first doc so I had nothing to compare him with. At first he seemed slighty condesending and talks fairly slow but I've learned that's just the way he is. Any way I decided that I wanted to try another doc and this guy was a complete a**hole, he just wanted me to take therpy with him. But I straight up asked him why I should do it. Ya know what he says? He says "Are you challenging me"? wtf~!. Anyway I went back to Krompier he also suggested therapy in addition to meds. But gave a great explanation why to take therapy. He said "It reminds you about the real world" or something like that. This guy knows his stuff. I highly recommend him

Not so sure about that negative comment down there. Sounds like that patient has some serious aggression that needs to be worked out in therapy! Dr. Krompier is by far the best psychiatrist in the area and an excellent diagnostician. I have found him to be extremely nice and caring, and he's willing to try new things if you've been unsuccessful with previous medication - he doesn't just boost dosage. The office is very nice in a great location amongst all the other doctor's offices at the San Ramon medical center. I've never had to wait long. He doesn't do therapy, but he gets you on the right medications, which makes all the difference in the world. He has helped me immensely with depression and ADHD. Two thumbs up!

I too, was taken aback a little when I learned Dr. Krompier was not going to provide therapy sessions for me. He was assessing my issues and prescribing medication only. After I got past this and his mannerisms, I think he is a wealth of knowledge and a good doctor. He is very good with knowing what to prescribe his patients and he tells it like it is. Some people can't handle this, too bad for them. It's not a New York mentality, he is not there to pamper you.

I am an RN and I feel comfortable with Dr Krompier and his knwoledge. He listens. He listened to my present and past history and assessed my needs appropriately. MDs such as Dr Krompier are there to diagnose and for meds not to counsel. If you are unclear on this your own expectations may disappoint you.

Terrible Doctor that needs to retire. He is way behind the times and has that New Yorker mentality (like your wasting his time); even though your paying him for his services. Steer clear of this doctor, and find one who actually CARES about your well being. Trust me, I wasted my time with him. A visit with Dr. Krompier is like going to a Holiday Inn with the stale continental breakfeast vs staying at the Belagio with the gourmet all inclusive buffet for the exact same price! No one in their right mind would do it if they knew that ahead of time! I wouldn't have spent the time writing this if I didn't mean it. Do yourself a favor and find a doctor who isn't past his prime and is touch with the times, and runs a five star operation!
