Not helpful at all. My daughter is much sicker now.

He found fistulas in my j pouch when almost 10 other GI docs had not. He has been able to fix them when they’ve occurred and does everything he can to help me keep my pouch when I’ve had a couple of surgeons who thought I should have it removed. He doesn’t mind explaining things to me and answers all my questions. Honestly I’ve never had another doctor who would email me back directly either. The only complaint I have is that it’s hard to get an appointment with him or get a lot of time with him but I know that means he is seeing other patients and helping them.

Can not communicate with this Doctor. He comes in with a minimum of 4 people, is always in a huge hurry and speaks broken english. I have asked the same question at least five times and can get no answer. Takes very little time explaining anything in email and in some cases doesn't even respond. The worst doctor I have ever had (and Ive had many) at communicating with me as a patient.

Always late, but that's because he is very generous with his time for each patient appointment.

After being told by doctors at U-M that my daughter would be chronically ill with infections to her J-pounch, Dr. Shen scoped her and removed two surgical staples and told her she would be fine! We had just spent 2 weeks in hospital with high dosages of antibiotics. Daughter ended up with allergic reactions to both and now can not take either class of medication. Dr. Shen gave her a new lease on life! Daughter will never go see anyone else! What a god-send!

What a awesome Dr. I traveled 1000+ miles to see him because no one else knew what to do with me. He seemed to have some new ideas and finally came up with a diagnosis. He is awesome with people with a JPouch!
