This is the first review I’ve ever posted on any doctor but I felt led to write this review on Dr. Eric D. Lonseth.
On Tuesday, July 17, 2018, I had a scheduled 10:30am appointment with Dr. Lonseth at his office at 4213 Teuton St, Metairie, LA 70006. I arrived early to allow myself time to fill out paperwork before seeing Dr. Lonseth. I had been a patient of Dr. Lonseth a few years before and was not prepared to fill out the volume of paperwork that was given to me.
I was called in for my visit and my vitals were taken by an assistant. I then was visited by Dr. Lonseth’s PA who spoke with me and did about one minute of examination but gave me a general explanation of what my MRI showed and explained where Dr. Lonseth would be inserting the needle. The PA then proceeded to take me to the front desk to make an appointment for me at Advanced Surgery Center of Metairie where I was told the procedure would take place. The procedure was scheduled for Tuesday, July 24, 2018 and I still had not seen Dr. Lonseth, just his PA. At the desk I inquired as to whether or not I would have to pay a Facility Fee and was told they had no knowledge of how Advanced Surgery Center of Metairie did their charges. I would have to wait and ask them. I stated I would not pay a Facility Fee. I also inquired as to when I would find out if the procedure was approved by my insurance company and was told that Advanced Surgery Center of Metairie would be contacting me on this.
On Friday, July 20, 2018, at about 3:30pm, I received a call from someone from Advanced Surgery Center of Metairie, who informed me my insurance company had approved the procedure. I inquired as to my out-of-pocket expense and was told I had a deductible of $175.00 which I would need to pay. I asked what the $175.00 was for and the person informed me it was for the Facility Fee. I immediately informed the person I wanted to cancel my procedure and was told Dr. Lonseth required a 48 hour cancellation. I immediately called Dr. Lonseth’s office and they informed me Dr. Lonseth required a 72 hour cancellation notice, which consisted of actual work hours. After much discussion, his office stated I had signed papers agreeing to pay if I cancelled within the 72 hours. Having been faced with such a volume of paperwork when I arrived for my appointment, I don’t doubt I had signed such a paper. I expressed my dissatisfaction with my treatment and told them to bill me. Conversation was closed and we both hung up the phone. Within approximately three minutes I received a call back from Dr. Lonseth’s office and was informed I would not have to pay a cancellation fee and Dr. Lonseth could move my procedure to another facility where I wouldn’t have to pay a Facility Fee. I told them I would think about it over the weekend and would let them know on Monday of my decision.
This whole procedure had a smell to it and first thing Monday morning I contacted my insurance company and was told they had approved the procedure the same day I visited Dr. Lonseth’s office and was seen by the PA. I called Dr. Lonseth’s office and informed them I definitely wanted to cancel, as my discovery had shown the procedure was cleared on Tuesday but they waited Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and until late enough Friday so as I would fall too late to qualify for Dr. Lonseth’s 72 hour cancellation. What doctor’s office makes an appointment for a procedure before it has been approved by the insurance company?
I cannot even give Dr. Lonseth a true one star rating.
