Dr. Ellison performed a marathon 8-hour surgery on my husband while we were on vacation after a freak accident. We couldn't be more pleased with his work, his demeanor, and his compassion. He went above and beyond in every capacity--even finding us a follow-up doctor in our home state. We consider ourselves fortunate to have had him as our doctor.

This could easily be a novel so in case I limited to a "cliff notes" amount of space ~ Dr Scott Ellison is truly worth taking the time to write about.

My 1st ACDF surgery in Nov 2014 was a result of years of running my body ragged. I gave into surgery with Dr Ellison after researching for over a year.

Being a "Dr Snob" having grown up in/around the medical mecca of the Cleveland Clinic ~ I wanted only the best. Everyone in this area told me who they thought was "the best surgeon" but research told me otherwise. I know for sure that I was spot on.

Immediately following a 2 level fusion (5/6 & 6/7 (and then a rotator cuff repair 60 days after my fusion) ~ I was back to being 100% within weeks ~ My only regret was that I did not do it sooner.

Just 8 months following my fusion ~ when my life was back on track and I was taking much better care of myself due to my new and improved special body parts ~ I was driving at approximately 20 miles per hour on a residential street when I was T-boned at over 65 miles per hour by a young boy out joy-riding.

From that day forward and increasingly over the course of the next 2.7 years ~ the muscles surrounding my fusion began and remained in a constant state of spasm ~ my life had been close to unbearable and nothing provided any type of relief. Trying every form of both pharmaceutical and holistic methods to try and help me including physical & neuromuscular therapy, pain management with injections and ablations and finally botox to paralyze the muscles ~ and ultimately, when nothing helped ~ I finally had a tearful meeting with Dr Ellison 2 months ago ~ when he put a new plan in motion.

I am currently writing this review just 9 days post op from what I've been calling my "Repeal & Replace" ACDF Sugery. Dr Ellison removed the 1st set of screws/the plate and cleaned up the results of the damage caused by the trauma of the accident and added another level w/a new disc, plate & screws and then put me back together. I woke up in the recovery room to the first relief I've had in over 2 years. The muscle spasms that had been attaching my fusion site and causing me to go literally crazy one day at a time were finally GONE!

Prior to making the decision to have this 2nd surgery, my Primary Care Physician of 17 years who did not personally know Dr Ellison the way I do, had suggested I get a 2nd opinion at that big fancy facility down south ~ since clearly this type of surgery was going to be a bit more complicated than the 1st go-round. I decided to share that concern with Dr Ellison (even though I personally knew that "he was my guy").

He proceeded to tell me a brief story about a long and complicated case and surgery he'd recently completed and how he felt about the success of that case. The passion and pride in the way Dr Ellison shared that with me is the way you want your surgeon to feel about the work he does. The results I've achieved not once ~ but twice with Dr Ellison's expertise is what you want from your Spinal Surgeon. People ask me why I did not choose a Neurosurgeon ~ and my response is because I wanted someone who specialized in the Spine specifically.

P.S. I am a small business owner and also a soon to be retiring Real Estate Broker. My surgery was last Wednesday ~ and I was feeling so great after this 2nd surgery that I was actually showing homes 2 days after I was released from the hospital (just 3 days post op) and then again on Monday ~ neck brace and all! (but don't tell my Surgeon, I'm not sure if that was too soon to be back to work or not)!

This really is one of the most important decisions you can ever make so make it wisely. Dr Scott Ellison should be your choice if you want results!

Rudest Doctor we have ever met! Super huge Ego. Staff IS GREAT! He interrupts/doesn't let you speak. Said other doctors think they are God. He needs to look in the mirror. Totally UNHELPFUL! Zero compassion. Didn't perform a thorough neurology test as we found out after going to the SE Spine Institute. He missed a simple "toe test" that could have saved weeks of agony. Would not prescribe PAIN meds. Did not explain MRI at all! Wouldn't do surgery. SE Spine said surgery was only option. HORRIBLE!

I went to see Dr Ellison for Lumbar issues, he completely disregarded everything I said about my problems with L4, L5 and S1 which causes me to feel as if I have a knife in my spine, chisel in my hip and I wake up daily with dislocated hips. Instead he decided to fix what he could a disc in my neck, he commented that he could not operate on my Lumbar or Sacrum due to Bowel obstruction or a worst outcome than I already have. After neck surgery I have issues holding my head up, Headaches have gotten worst and when I asked him for written reason why he would not operate on my Lower back where the real issue I went to see him was he said he does not believe I am disabled enough to justify commenting on it. He has the worst bedside manner, when I asked him to fill out a form that would state how he feels about my situation he said I dont believe you are disabled and walked out of the room before I could comment back. He is fully aware of my problems with my Lumbar and Sacrum and would not even discuss it... Find another doctor!

Absolutely terrible experience. Look around the internet and you'll see how many poor reviews this Dr. has received on many sites. There's a definite reason for it. Do yourself a favor and find someone who actually cares and has time for you. The most unprofessional Dr. and staff I have ever dealt with in my life.

I feel that I was indeed fortunate to have Dr Ellison do cervical spine fusion on four levels. I had had severe pain for three months and every avenue was tried without any improvement. I had surgery six weeks ago and have had an uneventful recovery. I am pain free and back to all activity. The entire experience from the first visit has been free of any complications.. Waccamaw Hospital also is exceptional. They leave nothing undone.

Such a caring Dr. Explained condition very well and the surgery needed. Even offered to explain it to my children. I feel very secure in his care. He also performed my husbands neck surgery with amazing results.

He is thorough, caring, intelligent with excellent training, and spends time with the patient. I trust him with my life. Where surgeons can earn quite a lot on expensive back surgery, he was honest enough to say that I needed to see a specialist in another state rather than simply operate.
