I have a very long story to share but let's just start with by saying I am glad to be alive with my twins (14 weeks) because I followed my symptoms (I'm a Peds Cardiac ICU RN for 12 years) and not the advice of Dr. Jeffery Starr....She wanted me to see a therapist instead of acknowledging my real medical symptoms... I thought this Dr. was a right fit for me through her video but don't take her confidence as a doctor as someone that knows what she is taking about. I would like to share my story to help all mom's be more aware of their pregnancy symptoms and also to help them choose a doctor that actually listens to them.
2.5 years ago I had back pain that was related to an ovarian cyst (endometriosis) the size of an orange. I bled a 1/2L in the OR and my my laproscopic surgery ended with a laparotomy and a tons of scar tissue. I tried to get pregnant for 8 months but couldn't so I saw a fertility specialist. Little did I know, endometriosis surgery can remove good ovarian tissue. When I got my AMH level it was 0.3! I had very little eggs left to get pregnant. I was devastated. After my first IVF treatment (2 nonviable eggs retrieved), surgery to get my tubes tied (have hydrosalpinx) and then another IVF treatment, I got pregnant with twins! My doctors were very surprised. I only had 3 eggs but seeing an acupuncturist, gluten, soy and dairy free diet and also not working helped me get pregnant. Thank god my IVF doc and my surgeon pulled me out of work. I was in so much pain. Imagine the worst cramps you had and times it by 10. I was on 18 advils/day and other meds to control my pain. They understood my job. I run around taking care of some of the sickest patients out there. One tiny mistake can be life or death for a baby. I was in no physical condition (pain, nausea, vomiting, shortness of breath) to be working 12- 14 hour shifts. At 8 weeks I graduated from fertility clinic and needed a new OBGYN. I got an appt with Dr. Jeffery Star.

My initial visit with her NP (Susette) was great. I would give her 5 stars. Since I wanted time off of work I needed to be evaluated by Dr. Jeffery Starr.

Let's talk about Dr. Jeffery Starr. now. I had an appt at 8am. At 8:45am I asked my husband to find out what was going on. I was already in the exam room for 45 min. With attitude Dr. Jeffery Starr informed me that my medical records from my previous office were not in and she could not evaluate me without them. She blamed my fertility clinic, who is always on top of things, instead of blaming her staff for not following up on it. I gave them a signed consent to get my records a week prior. Finally at 9am she got them and mentioned how now shes late for all her other appts. I understood but nothing much I could do. She knew I was there for disability and from her body language, I knew I was not going to get it. She asked what was going on, so I started with my previous surgeries and then just started crying. I let her know I don't feel good physically and am depressed. I was very honest. I'm so independent and always on the go. At that time I could barely walk up the stairs and had to sit after to catch my breath and was barely holding down a 1000 calories. She sat in front of me trying to be sympathetic but basically told me no women should be off of work at 10 weeks. Women are meant to work with these symptoms. She was throwing up during her surgeries when she was pregnant. Good for her! I would not want to be her patient. I now have lost her respect cause I'm crying. In my head I was wondering how I was going to go back to work in 5 days. I asked her about my leg pain and with every symptom I had it was "honey, you are pregnant and everything is in your head. Don't take this the wrong way but you need to see a therapist. " Time to find a new OBGYN. I found another OBGYN (very familiar with twins) who took me off of work for a few weeks. I wanted to go back to work. I miss what I do. By then my leg pain was gone. My depression was gone cause I was off my progestorone med that causes depression, stomach aches and nausea. I didn't need a therapist, I needed to be off that med.
If only she looked at my medication list and knew their side effects.

One week later I woke up dizzy, not feeling well. After resting a few hours I knew something was wrong. I took my BP (107/70) and resting HR 140s! I went straight to the ER and after a few tests found out I had pulmonary embolisms (clots) in my lungs. They come from DVTs in the legs. I was started on lovenox (blood thinner) and sent to the ICU. I could have died at home if I didn't listen to my gut. If I went to work, I would have over exerted my heart and probably would have arrested at work and could have lost my life and my babies. 3 months ago my coworker arrested and lost her baby and almost her life from PEs.

Be aware of your symptoms and advocate for what you need. Also don't go to this doctor.

I have been to a lot of ob/gyns in my life. Only two of them I would ever recommend to friends/family and Dr. Nicole Jeffery Starr is one of them. She was incredibly nice, very sweet, and knowledgeable. She made me feel very comfortable, which is hard when you're lying in a room naked. I would recommend her to any and every woman.

I have only had one appointment with Dr. Jeffrey-Starr thus far, but she is definitely my gynecologist now. I found her to be extremely personable and knowledgeable. She gave me the impression that she had as much time to talk with me as I needed, answered all of my questions thoroughly, and was very clear about future expectations. She is one of the best doctors I have seen in a very long time.

My first appointment with Dr. Jeffrey- Starr was one of the worst experiences I have ever had in my medical history. She was extremely rude and judgmental about personal medical information that I disclosed to her. She seems to be an intelligent woman, however she has absolutely no doctor/patient communication skills. She is very unprofessional and comes across as an arrogant and pushy individual. I have seen many doctors in my life and I can happily say that almost all of them are professional, knowledgeable, and kind-hearted individuals; this unfortunately is not the case with Dr. Jeffrey-Starr. I got the impression that she chose to become a doctor for the "status" it implies rather than for the pleasure of helping others. Bottom line? Pick a different doctor.
