After several people encouraging me to write a review for other Breast Cancer patients, I'm finally doing it just over a year later.
One year ago I was diagnosed w Breast cancer. Dr Kevin Steadland was the surgeon recommended to me by someone from the Breast Center. I looked online for reviews as well. They seemed to be good. We had decided to just do a lumpectomy instead of mastectomy bc I was in stage 1 and felt comfortable doing that. Dr Steadland was going to be out of town on a conference so said he couldn't follow up with me a week after surgery like he usually does but rather would in two weeks. I did have to see him a day after surgery bc I was extremely nauseated and dizzy to the point I'd fall down. He figured it was pain meds so switched me to its sister drug, which did the same thing to me so I went off it and got something else thru my regular Dr. I was in lots of pain that week after and had swelling and redness. I called hospital even though Steadland was out and told them about my systems but they said it's normal. My pain and discomfort got worse and by the time I finally I saw Steadland, I couldn't move my arm. Before I saw him that day, I saw my awesome oncologist for the first time. She felt horrible for me and said it appeared I did have a breast infection. She didn't give me antibiotics bc she said Dr. Steadland would after he saw me but if for some reason he didn't , to call her. Later that day I saw Steadland. He looked at incision and said it looked good. I tried telling him about my swelling and pain and redness of my breast and that I couldn't lift my arm, but he kept cutting me off. He wouldn't listen to me. Instead he yelled at me for not being able to reach my arm above my head yet and said that I better by the time I see him again or he's going to really scream at me. My sister witnessed this with me. I was in such shock I was being treated this way that I couldn't say anything. Afterward, I called my oncologist who was shocked at how I was treated by him and immediately gave me antibiotics. The next day I received a call from Steadland. He said he noticed in the notes that my oncologist prescribed me antibiotics. I told him that was true. He said, "I want you to stop taking them. Im the surgeon and I would know if you had an infection." I told him I would not go off them and that if he bothered to actually look at me he would've seen my breast was swollen, red and warm to the touch. He said I could come back and he would look again. Why would I do this? He had his chance plus I wasn't going to pay another copay or have insurance pay him another dime. I started seeing a lymphadema therapist ,the best by the way. I had chording under my arm as well. I had to delay radiation bc I couldn't lift my arm over my head yet for mapping but we got it fixed and I started radiation in march.
Well my breast was measuring bigger then it should've been, which I told radiologist how much pain I was in, so was sent to infection dr. It would appear my original breast infection from day one never went away. I was put on antibiotics for 6 weeks. It finally cleared up. Because of how I was positioned during surgery, I got tendinitis in my shoulder. Three lymphnoids were removed during surgery, no draining tubes were put in me btw and guess what? I also have lymphadema. My body also reacted to tamoxifen so had to have ovaries removed , no way would I have Steadland anywhere near that one. It's been a long year but with faith in God, prayers , family and friends I'm holding in there.

Dr. Steadland is very talented. He is dedicated to his work, and he'll answer all your questions. Don't be shy asking, he can seem a bit hurried but he's actually an extremely caring doctor.
