Severe sciatica came on suddenly. I went to physical therapy and after the 2nd visit determined it was not helping. I couldn't sit and had difficulty sleeping. I was on my way to a walk-in Ortho clinic when I saw Arctic Laser Surgery. I remembered by brother-in-law indicating that laser surgery might be a good option for me, but that not many ortho surgery centers do them. So, I turned my car around and went to Arctic Surgery Center. Janelle (at the front desk) said the best neurosurgeon was in the office and could see me in 15 minutes. I thought, wow! That's service. I met with Dr. Maxwell and he quickly determined I would need an MRI and x-rays to diagnose my sciatica. He called a local imaging center and I was off to see them at 4 pm. After the MRI was complete, I met again with Dr. Maxwell the next day. As he reviewed the images, he saw disc fragments wedged between my spine and vertebrae. I would need a non-invasive surgery.

Each step of the way, Dr. Maxwell was very decisive regarding my treatment plan. And he was right on. I have my life back again and was very impressed with Alaska Surgery Center, their entire staff, and their professionalism.

#1 ...
I've always LOVED the Arctic Spine Surgical Group's logo! (coz I'm into graphics and it is so cool)!

#'s 2 thru 100 ...
From the FIRST moment I met Dr. Maxwell - I was comfortable! I immediately believed what he was telling me and I had no negative reservations whatsoever.

Met Dr. Price and the emotions were the same! Comfortable and Believe-able! :-)

The Procedure was the first time I'd ever had surgery - but I was confident that Dr. Maxwell and Dr. Price KNEW what they were doing and would take good care of me ... and THEY DID!

Surgery is - what surgery is ... but I KNOW the procedure was a Success and I'm healing Properly! They've both KEPT IN TOUCH WITH ME EVERYDAY afterwards!! And if they called, but had to leave a message ... THEY CALLED BACK!

I not only Appreciate Dr. Maxwell and Dr. Price -- but I'm THANKFUL for them! I thank God that the wonderful Dr. Shamsideen Musa recommended Dr. Maxwell and I'm so thankful I immediately made the appointment to see him. PRAISE GOD ... FOR HE ALWAYS TAKE CARE OF ME!

Thank you Dr. Maxwell, Dr. Price, Janelle and Johnathan of Arctic Spine Surgical Group for your Excellent care! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

My husband recently had a 2-level cervical fusion and I cannot say enough good things about Arctic Spine. From the ease of scheduling our initial consultation, to Dr. Maxwell getting us an MRI appointment that same day, to easy access to office staff and doctors, Arctic Spine exceeded our expectations on every level. After it was determined that my husband would require surgery, Arctic Spine worked with our insurance company (Blue Cross) to get the procedure approved so we could start making travel arrangements. In the days leading up to the surgery, numerous staff were in contact with us to answer our questions and make sure we were prepared for not only the surgery, but the recovery process, as well. On the day of the surgery, I was able to sit with my husband until he was wheeled back for his procedure, and during that time, the nurses did a great job reassuring us making sure we were completely comfortable with what was going on. Dr. Price and Dr. Maxwell both met with us, which went a long way in making a stressful situation less so. Once my husband was out of surgery, I was allowed to go sit with him. Even though he wasn’t fully awake, the nurses were kind and respectful, doing all they could to manage his pain and make sure he was comfortable. Again, both Dr. Price and Dr. Maxwell spent a good deal of time talking to us to ensure things were okay before we were permitted to leave. Dr. Price called to check in that evening and we had a follow-up appointment with Dr. Maxwell the next day. We are now just over two weeks post-op and couldn’t be happier. Although we’d initially been hesitant to schedule the surgery in an out-patient center rather than a hospital, after experiencing the outstanding level of care at Arctic Spine, we’d choose them again. Highly recommended!

In 2018, I had hysterectomy at Anchorage Women Health, and about 1-month post-op I started experiencing left groin pain. After several complaint of pain, the doctor at Anchorage Women Health said that she is unable to treat the pain and recommended that I follow up with primary doctor. My doctor referred me to Independence Park Medical and I was treated with a Lidocaine injection in my left groin that lasted for about 30 mins. Couple months later, the pain started getting worse and started affecting my back and radiating down to my left leg. I went back to my primary doctor, and she referred me to Advanced Pain Center of Alaska, and I was treated with Lidocaine and steroids injections, and an MRI done, but when the Lidocaine and steroids did not help with my pain, the doctor at Advanced Pain Center of Alaska referred me to a neurosurgeon at Anchorage Neurosurgeon Associate; I had x-rays, MRI, an EMG, and physical therapy (for many weeks), but the pain keeps getting worst. The doctor at Anchorage Neurosurgeon Associates said that my pain is related to my joints, and referred me to my primary doctor and she referred me to an orthopedic doctor at Anchorage Fracture and Orthopedic Clinic: I had x-rays, MRI, steroids injections, and left hip arthroscopy, and physical (for several weeks) in 2020, but my pain was getting worst to the point where I could barely walk. The orthopedic doctor said that he treated the hip pain, and I need a neurosurgeon to do a surgery/ treat the back pain. I went back to the first neurosurgeon at Anchorage Neurosurgical Associates, and the neurosurgeon said, " You look miserable. The last time I saw you, you were walking straight. Now you are limping, walking and leaning on one side, but the when I compare your last MRI with the first one nothing has changed. I cannot do anything to help you with your pain." Then, while assessing the leg and back the neurosurgeon said," I have a neurostimulator I can insert it in your lower back and it will help with your pain, but (Blue Cross and Blue Shield) did not approve the procedure. I was experiencing so much pain that the neurosurgeon referred me to Alaska Center for Pain Relief and this time I had no other choice but to agree to take another steroid injection in my (S1) Oh my! I had a reaction to steroids and I thought the pain would kill me. Then, my insurance was cancelled and I had Medicaid, but Medicaid did not approve the procedure. Every day, my quality of life was getting worse, and I had nowhere else to turn to, so I went back to my primary doctor and per my request, she referred me to a pain specialist at Neuroversion, and I was treated with 2 steroid injections in my lower back. Oh! thank God, I had good pain relief for about 2 weeks, then back to where I started (unbearable back, left groin and leg pain that prevents me from sleeping, walking properly, unable to sit for long periods at a time, and the list goes on) During mid-August 2021, I called the orthopedic doctor's office and requested to do physical therapy again. 1 week before I completed the six weeks of physical therapy, I did I session of chiropractic, and that is when my back, groin, and hip pain exacerbated to the point I decided I need to Google top neurosurgeon in Anchorage. When I Googled top neurosurgeon in Anchorage, Dr Marius Maxwell name popped up. I must say God answered my prayer. I called Artic Surgical Group and everything in my life changed. I got a next day appoint, which I could not attend, but the follow day I did. During my appointment with Dr Maxwell, "he said your back is a quick fix. I can go in there and cut the bone in 45 mins." I was so shocked. I have been to so many doctors that I thought that he was just another doctor that wants to eat all my money, but I was wrong. Dr Maxwell is about caring for patient. I looked at him closely and all I can see is a compassionate and caring doctor that wants his patient to feel better and get well. Dr Maxwell recommended a steroid injection while I get my stuffs together to do the surgery. Dr Maxwell did not request another MRI, he used the result of my last MRI that was done in January 2021, and ordered an x-ray for my lower back. On 10/26/21 my miracle took place at Artic Surgical Group. It is 1 month since I had my lower back surgery. My back is a bit sore from those stitches, but my lower back, and left leg and groin pain are gone. I would recommend Dr Maxwell to anyone who is experiencing back/nerve pain issues. Dr Price works with Dr Maxwell and he is very good with what he does, and they both work as a good team. Dr Price does not say much, but he is the most caring and compassionate doctor that I have visited. Couple times, after my appointment Dr Price calls after hours to check on me. In general, I can say ARTIC SURGICAL GROUP IS THE BEST neurosurgical team in Anchorage Alaska. Best wishes to Dr Maxwell and his medical Team. Thank you! Thank you!

I highly recommend the Arctic Surgical Center. This is my second surgery with Doctor Maxwell the first one was after Dr. Johnson did surgery on my lower back with no relief at all. I went for years with the pain until I could stand it no more. Searching the web for surgeons in Anchorage and Dr Maxwells information popped up. I knew from reading his credentials that he was the guy for me. So glad he fixed my back surgery that Dr. Johnson started. I have had little to no pain with my lower back other than arthritis. So when I was told I would need neck surgery I knew who I wanted to do my surgery but he wasn’t in the net work with my insurance company. They worked with the insurance to get it approved and I am grateful. I had my surgery on last Thursday morning and was home by 3 pm before the sun went down since my wife is driving me around and she don’t do well in the dark. As of today, I have had very little pain other than a slight cough from the tub down my throat. Dr Maxwell and Dr Price are just awesome, and I love those two guys. They have given me a chance to live a normal life without the radiating pain that would just drive me crazy from my head down to my neck and into my shoulders and arm. I was a short surgery and I felt better immediately don’t really know why I waited and suffered so long. I highly recommend Dr. Maxwell, Neurosurgeon, and Dr. Price, Anesthesiologist, at the Arctic Surgical Center. Don’t do what I did I suffered for years with this pain and didn’t have too.
Thank you Dr Maxwell and Dr Price ..
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours Lalbachan Lakeram

Steroid injections were becoming less effective so I did some research and called Arctic Surgical Group. Dr. Maxwell checked my X-rays, explained the problem, went over the options, and assured me he could fix the throbbing constant pain in my right hip and leg, I appreciated his conservative non- invasive approach to the surgery needed to release the pressure on the nerve. It’s been 3 months and the pain is gone. My mobility and quality of life are significantly better. Thank you, Dr. Maxwell, Dr. Price, nurses, and staff. I would recommend Dr Maxwell to friends and family for a positive experience.

Dr. Maxwell was a second opinion. His recommendation was have the minimum procedure done to help with a successful recovery and outcome. I am 84 years and had a cervical fusion of C5 and C6 along with a bone graft. The follow up care was excellent from Dr. Maxwell and Dr. Price, the anesthesiologist. I continue to be amazed with the lack of pain from this procedure. I have seen improvements in my stability and walking. I would recommend getting the second opinion and talking with Dr. Maxwell at the Arctic Surgical Group.
