Biography
During her youth growing up in Crystal Lake, Dr. Holtkamp was deeply interested in health and helping people feel better after they had hurt themselves. It was natural for her to pursue these interests through further education in healthcare after graduation from Crystal Lake South High School. She attended Northern Illinois University, where she completed her degree in physical therapy with honors. Early in her career as a staff physical therapist at St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago, Dr. Holtkamp provided out-patient therapy to orthopedic patients where she developed an interest in the orthopedic specialty. After assessing her long-term career goals, Dr. Holtkamp elected to pursue a medical degree and completed her training and residency at Northwestern University Medical School. While in residency, she participated in the care of athletes from the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, Chicago Blackhawks, Northwestern University, and the Joffrey Ballet. Drawing on her interests in the variety of conditions and injuries involving the hand, Dr. Holtkamp pursued advanced hand surgery fellowship training at the prestigious Mayo Clinic. During this fellowship, she fulfilled coursework at the Mayo Microvascular Training Center and trained with world-renowned shoulder, elbow, and hand surgeons with decades of experience. Now as a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with a sub-specialty in upper extremity, Dr. Holtkamp credits her early physical therapy background for enhancing her ability to guide patients through the healing process to reach their goal of complete recovery. “I am committed to providing the highest quality of care to maximize recovery and minimize interruptions to people’s lives. My treatment philosophy is to recommend medically-proven conservative treatment before considering surgery. When non-operative care is no longer an option, I perform minimally invasive surgery whenever possible and use state-of-the-art techniques that expedite the healing process.”

DR KELLY HOLTKAMP WAS BY FAR THE RUDEST, MEANEST, MOST UNPROFESSIONAL DOCTOR I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED IN MY LIFE. I TRIED TO ASK QUESTIONS SHE SPOKE OVER ME. I TRIED TO EXPLAIN MY PAIN SHE DISMISSED ME. HORRIFIC.
