IDC-DCIS Gr 1, Stg 1, HR/+, HER2/- I met with him late Nov and was not settled on what I wanted to do for my surgery. A week later, after reviewing options with my plastic surgeon, I was sched. with the two surgeons for a Sentinal node biopsy and a Bilateral mastectomy w/reconstruction. Six weeks later I met for a pre-op reivew and was set. The DAY before surgery, he decided he did not want to go through with the procedure as discussed and scheduled for SIX WEEKS and instead would only deal with the cancer and told me anything else was "ELECTIVE". I had heard things about him and about the Fargo Drs w/regards to breast cancer treatment over all, sadly I guess they were right.

I was told he had concerns about my hemoglobin (11.7) test which had just come back. However, my chart indicated that was my hemoglobin the first time I met with him as well. So really, there was no ground to stand on. If he did not want to do the procedure, he should have refused the scheduling request and once he accepted it is completely unacceptable to decide to "change his mind" the DAY BEFORE surgery and instead offer multiple surgeries over a year+ - oh and make sure to let me know he considers my other breast and anything beyond a lumpectomy just "elective".

In fact, I got the clear impression that anything besides removing the lump (who cares how that leaves you looking) and pushing chemo and radiation, was just not anything he cared about anyway. Scoop it out and move on - well that is the factory level of health care I have come to expect and I just got a good dose of it! (He did say in the first appt. that it was not a big deal, the lumpectomy would just leave an indentation in my breast.... REALLY - that is OK??? Why do I feel like if this were is penis we were discussing, it would be a little more of an issue to mutilate it and call it ok)

Dr. Bouton did a double lumpectomy on my wife's breast cancer. He focuses his practice on breast cancer surgery and he is a very good surgeon and a very nice man. My wife tolerated surgery very well and she transitioned nicely to chemo and radiation. We would recommend him.
