My experience with Dr. Brent Michael was awful. I've seen him several times and it was ok... However, each time I met with him, I saw erratic behavior. He refused to answer my questions unless I schduled another appointment, all after waiting 2 hours 45 minutes PAST my appt. time. He spent maybe 5-10 mins on my heart test results. He was condisnefing, rude, rolled his eyes, sighed in annoyance at all ofmy questions. It was a serious issue and he had no regard for my well-being or concerns.

I have been a patient of Dr. Brent Michael for over a year and a half now. Doctor Michael himself is very knowledgeable and helpful. He answers all of my questions and has recommended two different therapies that have both proven successful. However, his office staff is just terrible. He will instruct them to do things after my appointments such as requesting referrals for my HMO plan and lab work forms, however I have to follow up with them constantly to get the referrals the doctor has recommended. Not once have they followed up with me to fulfill the doctor's requests after an appointment.

His office also always runs at least 30 minutes behind and on at least 3 occasions I have had to wait in excess of an hour after my scheduled time to see the doctor despite already having an appointment. Dr Michael, if you're reading this I would recommend improving the quality of your administrative staff because they are worse than every other doctor's office staff I have ever dealt with.

That being said he is a very good doctor and I appreciate having him in my network.

THIS DOCTOR ORDERED TESTS THAT WERE NOT INDICATED AND THEN DID NOT RESPOND TO MY LETTERS ABOUT THE CHARGES FOR THESE TESTS. DR. MICHAEL THEN SENT THE MATTER TO COLLECTION. Here are the details: I went to Dr. Brent Michael for a routine annual exam, on 3/25/13. My internist of 18 years had retired, and I needed to find a new doctor. A work colleague recommended Dr. Michael. The exam experience was okay. They performed a bone density exam, which I had never had done before, so it was nice to get the results of that. I was smart enough to ask if my insurance company covered bone density exams first. However, they performed 7 lab tests (mostly all related to thyroid, such as TSH) on blood drawn for what I thought would be routine blood analysis. Unfortunately, I didn't think to ask in advance about all the tests they would perform on my blood and then bill me for later. When I received a very large bill for this blood work-up, I called my insurance company because my annual exams are covered 100% (no co-pay or any out-of-pocket), and in the last 18 years I never had to pay a cent. Blue Cross told me that thyroid lab tests are not preventative and therefore not covered. Despite two letters to Dr. Michael's office about this, his office never responded. Instead, they called me every month for the last year and a half; each time I patiently explained that I should not have to pay for tests that were not indicated or preventative for an annual exam. No one ever seemed to listen. In addition, at the annual exam, Dr. Michael also recommended that I return to his office the next day for a carotid ultrasound. Because my prior internist of 18 years had never done a carotid ultrasound, I asked my boyfriend (a tenured professor at the UCLA School of Medicine), who informed me that this test is very controversial, and because I'm very healthy (I'm a runner w/ low cholesterol, low BP, low heart rate) this test isn't indicated for me. So, I cancelled this exam. However, for a year and a half Dr. Michael's office has been harassing me for payment of the thyroid tests, despite my letters regarding why he should not have done these tests. I don't have thyroid problems, and there's no reason to suspect I have thyroid problems. Dr. Michael's office ignored my letters; continued to call me on a monthly basis; and then sold the debt to a debt collections company. The debt collections company called today; I explained the situation; they agreed thyroid tests should not be ordered unless indicated; but nevertheless said they would report me to all the credit reporting agencies today if I didn't pay today. All in all, this has been the worst physician visit of my entire 49 years. A true nightmare.

Dr. Michael is not your average doctor. I feel fortunate to have enjoyed Dr. Michael as my primary GP for over 6 years and have found him to be extremely trustworthy, personable, knowledgeable, honest, thorough, compassionate and non-judgmental. He takes the time to talk to you and to listen to all of your concerns. Dr. Michael is someone you can talk with and he really cares about each one of his patients. He listens and provides suggestions. A patient couldn't ask for a more caring physician than Dr. Michael. The entire office staff is extremely friendly, personable and accommodating. Dr. Michael is a great doctor, mentor and friend. I'm glad I have him as my primary care provider! I am forever grateful to Dr. Michael and strongly recommend him to anyone who desires personalized care.

I broke my leg a few years ago and was totally immobilized. I was playing basketball and landed wrong completely breaking the bone. I was depressed not to mention in pain. I was also slightly embarrassed about my condition. A friend of mine recommended Dr. Michael. I was amazed at how responsive and cordial he and his staff were in the early goings of my rehabilitation. I received the referrals I needed promptly and they would consistently check in with me to see how I was doing. I would highly recommend Dr. Michael to anyone, he’s a great doctor and all around stand up guy.

Dr. Brent Michael was awesome.. He and his staff were very friendly and accommodating. Short wait time and thorough examination. Dr. Michael was sweet, attentive, informative and helpful. Highly recommend him.

Dr. Michael has changed. I have seen him sometimes where he seems fine and other times more recently where he seems like a different person and acts strange--it's hard to describe but it has made me feel very uncomfortable. I am going to switch to another doctor because I have gotten second opinions that have proven him very wrong on more than one occasion. I would definitely NOT recommend him. His staff is nice, though.
