I was once a patient of his and have seen multiple Dr's for my Schizoaffective Disorder. I have neve seen one as truly intellectual as he. I made a horrible mistake, losing his trust. I need him.

I was checking out if the office yesterday and overheard the nicest staff person receiving a compliment about this office and about how courteous and professional the entire team is. This caught me off guard because in the 10-15 minutes I had been waiting, I saw so many difficult cases come in and no one was turned away, even those without appointments and this made me feel good. I decided I would let consumers know about this but was taken aback by how what appears to be 2-3 unhappy campers bashing this group, writing obviously personal and unbalanced reviews. I guess people don't like honest feedback, but that's perhaps why they can't get help I suppose. I wish there was a way to force anonymous eaters to disclose their personal information, criminal history, work and school disciplinary action, etc, etc. this should be mandatory in order to post negative feedback for fair balance.

Bottom line: this practice is not perfect but they never promised perfection. They did promise the best they could do and it really shows. If you don't want the feedback then you should consider not making the appointment. I guess people get great joy in being able to anonymously bash a dedicated professional. So unfair.

Also, Barash is a professor of Psychiatry and while he has students and future psychiatrists, he always sets expectations for safety from the very beginning. It is tough to hear this but I sleep better because I know they really care and don't take chances. They are highly recommended.

My son has seen many different pediatric specialists in the area and after losing my job due to having to leave to pick my son up at school often several times per week, I finally took the advice of my nami group who directed me to Dr. Brash. I was impressed to learn that he is a teacher at the local medical schools and has an entourage that he is constantly teaching. After only 3 visits, things are SO MUCH BETTER. Bless you Doctor B!

Extremely knowledgeable, compassionate, informative, prompt and spends an ample amount of time - that is the truth about Dr. Brian Barash. I relocated from Southern California to Kansas City and, after 10 years with the same psychiatrist, I was nervous about seeing someone new. Worse than that, after reading the other comments about Dr. Barash I was REALLY worried.

I am 100% satisfied with Dr. Barash in every aspect of his practice. I never thought anyone could be better than my other doctor and I was wrong, Dr. Barash is 1,000 times better because he is up-to-date with the most current prescribing options and he explains what is happening inside my body, not just my brain.

Do not hesitate to choose Dr. Barash as a psychiatrist.

We took our child to Dr. Barash for four separate visits. During those we had three different medical interns meet with us for 15 - 20 minutes and ask a bunch of standard questions, then the doctor would come in for a just a few minutes few minutes. On the last visit, after talking with another new intern, the doctor sat down and immediately said our child needed to be hospitalized. He asked no follow up questions, did not confirm his intern's information, and made no effort to talk to us before blurting this out. When I asked about our options, he said we had none. When I asked if we could get a second opinion, he said if we left he would call social services on us. Since we chose to seek a second opinion, he did indeed inform social services, which showed up at our house that afternoon. However the information he told them (which he failed to confirm from his intern) was grossly incorrect. He said my child had scars up and down her arms and legs, but upon inspection by social services this proved wrong. He caused more pain and suffering than he cured, has a horrible bedside manner, and is very rude.

Though many have clearly had good experiences with this doctor, we did not and I feel that I should share our experience so that others may take it into consideration when choosing their doctor. We took our 17-year old in for evaluation for ADD/ADHD based on a teacher's recommendation. He was having a lot of trouble focusing at school and we wanted to find out if there could be a medical reason for it. The doctor was extremely rude and berated my son for some poor choices he had made (ones that the majority of teenagers also make--they just don't all get caught). He would not even discuss the process of evaluating him for ADD/ADHD. The doctor just continued to come down on him for a poor choice he made -- he was downright mean. His father and I had been keeping quiet and letting our son answer the doctor's questions since that's what we assumed the doctor would want. However, at one point, the doctor turned to his father and I and said very condescendingly "are you always so calm about this with him". We explained that we were not always this calm, but we were here to let the doctor talk to our son and determine what our best path forward in terms of testing and counseling was. We also explained that there were multiple issues at play and that we were working on other issues in other ways, but that what we were there to talk to him about was the possibility of ADD/ADHD and how to go about finding out if that was a contributing factor. The doctor implied pretty strongly that we did not care. I finally let him have it and told him that I'd taken a ton of leave from work to try to help my son and we'd been working on a daily basis with his teachers and that we'd been very hopeful that through testing we could find some answers to what was causing his attention problems. End result...both my son and I walked out of the appointment in tears and I told the doctor that he may have undone all of the progress that his teachers and I had spent the last month working on. It was a horrible experience and did a lot of damage. He refused to even discuss the issue that we were there to see him for!

So far I've been bringing my 8 year old son to Dr. Barash for a couple of months and I have been very pleased with the staff and how strict and fair he is. After the first two doctors that have screwed up his medication numerous times and very glad I got a referral to him by his therapist to help my son. I feel confident he knows what he is doing and is readily to help him. Typically when someone isn't happy and nothing makes them happy they tend to voice their opinions. I'm guessing the negative comments about this practice are typically because they need beyond help maybe? Like anywhere you go you may have to wait, you can't always just walk in be serviced and on your way every time. Not everyone has patience.

I have read other reviews about this doctor and practice and am really surprised about the bashing that is allowed to take place on this ridiculous site. This is obviously the same person with an axe to grind with barash. If they were so dissatisfied with their experience, there are plenty of places they could go for relief but they know that they are in the wrong. My family has been blessed to have this practice assist us for years now. Do we wait at times? Yes. But there are plenty of times we cruise right in. We know that emergencies happen. We have had an overwhelmingly positive experience!!!

I have seen lots of psychs and dr barash was exceptional. I didn't have such a good experience with past docs. He was thoughtful, kind, caring, and made me feel fortunate to have found this great practice. I was shocked to see how busy this office gets but understood why when I saw how hard these guys work. I appreciate the walk I'm clinic and would much prefer this option to waiting weeks or months for the next appointment, or worse yet, going to the hospital. Thanks comp psych and dr barash.

Surprised at other ratings. We think he's wonderful (for 2 members of our family). He is brief on follow-ups, but takes more time if needed that day. He is nice, funny, has cutting-edge knowledge, willing to make evening appts. available. His staff has been exceptionally helpful & friendly, his nurse was nice, knowledgeable and efficient. He doesn't just throw meds at a patient, but seems to consider the pros & cons very carefully. He asks our opinion; rare in this field! We were extremely impressed and also appreciate that he stays pretty on-time. Very knowledgeable.
