Doctor spent majority of appt telling me my pain is in my head and gave stories about patients that thought that they had pain but really different. NOT something to tell someone who is in legitimate pain! I realize there are people like that but I'm not one and it's sad that doctors have this mentality these days.

Didn't really seem to care or check up on me after major surgery

Just met this Dr. today. He was is great at spelling things out and telling you what the problem is. Very very knowledgeable about the problem and willing to take the time to test all probabilities before jumping into surgery. My husband and I came away from his office feeling very comfortable about the next step in repairing his back problem. Stay tuned for up dates as we go through all that needs to be done. SO FAR SO GOOD!!!

I was referred to Dr. Jenkins when my MRI showed a massive hernia at my L5-S1 disc. Upon meeting him, I explained that my condition worsened so much that I had severe pain in both legs and it started going into my groin. He made me feel very comfortable and assured me that the pain I was experiencing was valid due to the size of the hernia. He explained the hemilaminectomy and microdiscectomy procedure, went through the checklist of what the risks and benefits were, and scheduled the appointment for surgery a week from our office visit. I went in at 6 am for the procedure, surgery began at 8, lasted about 2 hours plus, and I was out of Kaiser by noon. The pain was pretty intense at the incision, but it was a different kind of pain than what I'd been experiencing. Had no pain in my legs and could walk that same day. After suffering for six months of debilitating pain, I am happy to report that I am in a much better place and am able to return to normal day-to-day activities.

Dr. Jenkins is personable, great bedside manner and very knowledgeable. His staff is kind and helpful.

I was admitted to the hospital after an ER visit for excrusciating back pain that was so bad I was delerious alot of the time. The ER doc put me on IV dilaudid which didnt help much. Dr. Jenkins was called in to evauluate. I am a terminal cancer patient with multiple myeloma. When I was first diagnosed 2 years ago Dr. Jenkins was consulted as I had several fractured lumbar vertabrae. Surgery was contemplated but not done as the vertabrae stabilised and werent causing much pain. So Dr Jenkins was well aware of my medical status. During this recent evaluation he told me he could see no reason I should be in so much pain and accused me of faking and exhibiting 'typical drug seeking behavior' and he couldnt do anything for me and left the room. Another doctor treating me said the MRI showed a tumor on my spine that invaded half the way into my spinal canal. I was put through radiation treatments for it and am on high dose pain meds. Had Dr Jenkins treated me Id be dead.

I had increasing back pain for 40 years & all Docs said nothing could be done for the degenerative disc disease, scoliosis & other spine abnormalities. Dr. Jenkins was very compassionate & informative. We tried PT, injections, Rx, no luck. He did a nerve root decompression surgery in 2005 which helped alot. But by 2006 my pain & disabilities increased, prevented me from working. He proposed a lumbar spine fusion. I interviewed other fusion patients, got second opinions & did extensive research through the Univ. of Washington Spine Symposium. In 2007, I decided to have Dr. Jenkins perform the rod & screw fusion. When he actually saw what was going on internally, he expanded the fusion to include the thoracic end & sacrum top for added stability. DR. JENKINS CHANGED MY LIFE. A year later I am virtually pain free after 40 years. I am now working, doing most types of yardwork & exercising. Slightly differently than before, but not bad for a 60 year old woman.

As a healthcare provider, I am well familiar with the distinction between competent and sub-standard care. Sustaining numerous fractures from C5-T6 as a consequence of a cycling injury , I came under the care of Dr. Jenkins. After nine days recumbent in another facility prior to transport, a casting effort was made by suddenly elevating me to a standing position, resulting in collapse. After three months in a full spinal brace, I was instructed to commence a weening process. A request was made for referral to PT and a counselor for managing post-traumatic stress. Both were denied with the remark that "you are a very bright guy and should be able to figure it out for yourself". Seeking an independent opinion from an Orthopedist outside Kaiser, it was determined that an incomplete MRI, lacking the view of T6 burst compression fracture site had not provided the radiographic evidence necessary for proper diagnosis and treatment, exposing me to the very real risk of spinal cord paralysis.
