I have Crohn's Disease and I have been at Cedars and have been trying to find a new G.I closer to home. My doctor referred me to Dr. Garrett. I knew of him as over 6 years ago, he was the doctor on call when I was really ill and lived in Burbank.. He was so compassionate and 2 days later got me in for a colonoscopy, which lead to my diagnosis. I immediately began treatment at Cedar's. Now living in Tarzana, after being referred to him I was thrilled to meet the man who was so kind to my husband in the middle of the night. I never write poor reviews, as I believe in going to the source but i am writing to you the public so that no one will have to go through what I did.
When Dr Garrett came into the room, his exact words were "I have no idea why you were referred to me as I only see colon cancer patients. Why are you leaving Cedars, you should go back there!" At the time I was in the restroom 30 to 40 times a day and having accidents. He wouldn't even examine me. His schedule said he could get me in a month as he was booked solid. I began to cry and the office manager took me aside. He confirmed that he specializes now in only colon cancer and liver disease. I called my doctor immediately crying uncontrollably. Greatly he got me in to see someone else whom I love and I am looking forward to having a long doctor/patient relationship with.
Today, my Internal Medicine called me to check in as he was out of town and began to tell me that Dr. Garrett told him I WAS TALKING POORLY OF MY PAST DOCTORS. I AM APPALLED. Not only was this heroic figure I had in my head unfriendly, but he is also a liar. He tried to save himself and lied to another professional. If you are a sick person with Crohn's or Colitis DO NOT go to this office. His associate Dr. Schulman misdiagnosed me 6 plus years ago with herpes in my esophagus!! I 3 weeks later found out I had Crohn's in my esophagus, upper and lower colon and colitis.
When one is ill we are so vulnerable to our doctors. I can only hope and pray that if this review helps save one person from my experience then this public review will be worth it. Signed....... "relieved to have found a good G.I close to home."

so far he is the 2nd doctor in this group I have been to, and both were fine so far.. Dr. Kuritzkes did an endoscopy and colonoscopy and I had no residual problems.. he explained the procedure afterwards and Dr. Garrett has been prompt and to the point with his information so far. He also has listened to my questions on the phone. I will know more after the 24th of the month, when I have a private consultation about results of tests

Dr. Garrett is a great doctor! I was having a problem and my regular doctor was not available and he called me immediately; and talked me through what was happening and had me in surgery the very next morning...and was finished and all was fine! His follow up manner is great. I read a woman on here who said it was a horror story. I believe she's a bit WAY too dramatic. Dr. Garrett would have never walked away had this woman needed his care. She sounded like trouble based on her account. That is why I felt the necessity to write this out.

I absolutely trust Dr. Garrett. He's doing a second colonoscopy on me next week. He is always prompt about returning my phonecalls when I have a question and is very good at explaining everything to me post procedure (via phone a few days afterwards when I am coherent and can understand). I am married to a PharmD who also has a few years of med school under his belt and he has been very impressed with Dr. Garrett as well. I also like that I never have to wait past my appointment time to see him. Very rare with any doctor. I highly recommend Dr. Garrett. He's an excellent gastroenterologist.

Did a colonoscopy & endoscopy procedure and was in a hurry to get to another surgery after mine so he never spent the time to properly speak to me. I was still sedated when he "supposedly" talked to me after the surgery - although I had no memory whatsoever of it. When I do remember waking up - I asked to speak with him. They said he had left. It was a horror show. And he never felt he did anything wrong. Something very bizzare happened that day, but to this day I'm still not sure what. Be very careful with this doctor - I would never put my life in his hands again.
