Recently took my son to the ER of the hospital nearest to us, Jersey Shore University Medical Center after he got knocked out during baseball. I wanted my son to follow up with his own trusted pediatrician, but the ER doctor and nurse kept pushing us to see Dr. Rice. They said "it was the protocol". I asked what medical specialty he was and they said "head injuries". We finally met up with Dr. Rice. The appointment basically consisted of him giving us an educational handout we could have easily downloaded off the internet and then wanted us to continue follow up with him for some reason and undergo several expensive and unnecessary tests. He also became absolutely angry when I asked about his true education and actual specialty (physical medicine and rehabilitation). My son's pediatrician then had to properly send him to a neurologist and then a neuropsychologist, the proper and typical specialists who test and treat concussions. Why all the lies and dangerous misdirection?

Dr Rice and his staff were recommended to us by a local (to us) ER Dr after my daughter suffered concussion symptoms upon her return to school after a head injury. His instruction, evaluation, bedside manner, treatment, and just complete care is amazing. As a coach and a teacher, I have recommended him to anyone and everyone I can. We travel more than an hour to see him and had to do so weekly when my now 16 year was on her 'cocoon therapy' for several months (she later sustained two more hits to the head from various non sport related incidents). Dr Rice worked (and continues to do so) with our school, the documentation for her needs (academic and physical), and always spoke to my daughter and me. I have since brought my other children to him for various sports related injuries and he has been able to help them when others have not been able to figure out a diagnosis. I HIGHLY recommend Dr Rice. He has pretty much saved my daughter's life.

My first visit didn't go so well. I felt like he was a little cold, not the best bedside manner. I felt like he didn't believe me when I told him how much pain I was in. After spending over an hour talking and examining me he prescribed me some meds & physical therapy. The next visit was great! He again spent a lot of time with me & was amazingly nice. Every visit since has been just as pleasant. Maybe he had a bad day on the first visit, I don't know. If you have a chance to see him I would highly recommend him. He's very nice & truly cares about his patients. He treats you as a human being & not just dollar signs. He also treats you with respect , he cares, helps & spends as much time with you as you need. I can't say enough about him. I love this doc, he's the best!!!

After reading the NY Times article referenced below, I felt compelled to report on a doctor who is truly the best. He was voted one of top 100 doctors in NJ in NJ Magazine.
