I was referred to Dr Corazza as a teenager for 2 seizures 6 months apart. He diagnosed me with Grand Mal epilepsy even though I explained to him that I had been under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time of the seizures. He said I would never outgrow it and put me on a heavy dose of anti-seizure medication that made me groggy, lifeless and gain weight. It was such a strong drug that I had to get labs drawn every 3 months to make sure my liver wasn’t failing. At the time I was young and unfortunately my mom didn’t question his diagnosis.
10 years later when I wanted to get pregnant, we had to switch my medication because it would cause major birth defects. I had a toxic reaction to the new medication and couldn’t sleep for 6 weeks straight (side effect). I called his office every day for weeks telling his nurse I didn’t feel right, I wasn’t sleeping, I need to be seen. She just kept saying hold on, it’s normal, you’ll adjust. By the end, I lost my job, almost lost my husband and was definitely losing my sanity. When he finally did see me, he realized it was a toxic reaction to the medication and said he didn’t take my calls serious because his other 2 patients that had toxic reactions tried to kill people and since I wasn’t acting violent, he wasn’t worried.
I immediately saw another neurologist (thank GOD) who advised me to get off all of Dr Corazza’s prescriptions and start from ground zero. He ordered an EEG and let me know I DIDN’T HAVE EPILEPSY.
All those years of being numbed out on high doses of seizure medication, losing my job of 6 years, my dignity and almost losing my sanity at the end to be told Dr. Corazza MIS-DIAGNOSED me. I should’ve sued, but I was so traumatized and just wanted to put it behind me and get on with my life.
He never apologized, never had his staff follow up to see if I was ok (probably terrified I was going to sue). Stay away from this man. His God complex is huge and your brain is too valuable to be treated by someone so incompetent and uncaring.
