My 19 yr daughter presented with pain x 10, elevated heart rate, low grade fever elevated blood pressure due to tailbone pain from what we thought was a fall. He was apathetic towards her and her pain. He sent her home after ordering a lumbar MRI instead I a sacral MRI (includes tailbone). No additional pain meds given, she had T3 and Toradol given by previous neighborhood clinic which did not even begin to touch the pain. That was all on a Monday. The following Wednesday her condition deteriorated, with new symptoms of committing and she could not get up from bed. I rushed to his office where he did not even make eye contact with me when I approached his nurse. I reported the new symptom to his nurse she relayed the information through her without the decency of approaching me to discuss with me. He sat there and said yea "I remember her, that girl that fell on her butt, tell her to discontinue the T3 she can just take Aleve. I was appalled and left deciding to take her to the ER. My daughter had an abscesses polinidal cyst that ruptured in the ER and had immediate surgery with a diagnosed resistant bacteria. Her heart rate was 175, white count 23k. Elevated blood pressure and low grade temp. They pushed morphine and dilaudid for 7 days. She has been released with caution. Do not underestimated the lack of concern in this doctors care.

A total lack of communication, he never solved the problem I came in for. After 4 to 5 visits, he never figured out how to fix me. I came in because I had congestion, ringing in my ears and I wanted a wart removed. That should not be that difficult. When I was finally referred to a dermatologist to remove my wart I went to the appt. only to find out that Phelan's office had not sent over the referral I needed to see the dermatologist. On top of that, he never seriously addressed the ringing in my ear. Instead he reccommended an over the counter medicine... I went 2 times, the first time he recommended one medicine and the second time he recommended another. When going to Walgreen's to purchase the medicine, it was apparent that the second medicine was the exact same as the first with a different name. Exact same ingredients and quantities. Needless to say, I still have ringing in my ears. I finally had him switched as my PPO so now maybe I will get real results! Don't go see this guy!

He has been my PCP since '92. I am very happy with him and would not change. He's about my age, we get along great, he's got an easy manner and a subtle sense of humor, his staff are always friendly to me and professional, I get called in on time, the lab tests he orders are very thorough. Honestly when I read some of these negative reviews I wonder if they've even been to the same doctor!

Made an off-the-wall diagnosis--since confirmed not to be valid and completely unrelated to the reason for my visit--after spending very little examining me and ordering no referrals. Poor bedside manners and had an odd habit of looking-up topics on medical websites while talking to you with his back facing you. I spent hours in his office/waiting room for some 10-15 minutes of face time with this physician and his office didn't appear busy. In all, I felt very uncomfortable about my visit and will not return.

Said thyroid issue was easy when I asked for referral to endocrinologist, though ordered incorrect bloodwork for any type of detailed testing. Did not even check my neck, which is one of the standard things when checking thyroid. Actually said that all there was to it (thyroid) was ordering the bloodwork and adjusting until the numbers were in the right range. This won't seem like a big deal to anyone except those with thyroid issues. VERY condescending and not at all willing to listen. My experience with this doctor was that he is rude, arrogant, and condescending.

Always listens and provides appropriate response. Interested in my well being. When I have views they are taken into account. Good GPs are hard to find; Dr. Phelan is top notch.

I have had this doctor as my family doctor for years. He has always proven to be knowledgeable, helpful, can courteous. I have never had an issue with his staff either. The only negative thing I can say is that sometimes I have had to wait in the room for awhile before he came in.
