I had a really painful infection of my lower eyelid. My PCP gave me some drops, but they didn't help. I saw an eye doctor who wanted to operate, but when I looked up treatments on the computer, that didn't look like a good idea. I saw Dr. Lin at Dr. Bern's office and she explained that they almost all get better with only warm washcloth compresses, and you don't operate until it hasn't gone away after simple treatment. A week of warm washclothes and I was fine, and didn't really need surgery at all. Thanks.

I’m taking this opportunity to praise a doctor both my husband and I have been seeing for well over a decade…Dr. Bruce Bern. My husband has suffered much over the past couple of decades from his severe cardiac condition (two triple bypasses just launch the list!) We aim at maintaining good relationships with all our medical professionals. In the San Francisco Bay Area, we like and trust Dr. Bruce Bern the best and the most! Just over a year ago, Dr. Bern saved my husband’s life when he noted an occlusion in his veins/artery when looking into/behind his right eyeball. This indicated a problem with his carotid artery. He recommended we immediately see his cardiologist. We did. Two days later my husband was undergoing a carotid endarterectomy, which saved his life! We feel blessed to have discovered such a caring and thorough medical professional. We’ve found his entire staff–from front office to back, equally caring and on top of their profession’s demands.

I am truly surprised this Dr and his office would get anything but a "5" rating. I wish my other Dr's office ran as efficiently and as on time as this office routinely does. Dr Bern has always spent the needed time with me and when I left his office, I felt more knowlegable about my entire health that just might effect my eyes. I suspect for anyone that was unhappy with this Dr or office, there might be two sides to the story. I grant you, I am the time of patient that will show up 10-15 mins early and would rarely be late, therefore I appreciate the fact how close they run the office to "ON TIME." They can only do that if the patient cooperate to respect appointment times.

I have been seeing Dr. Bern for years, and have found him to be consistently thorough and detailed with every visit. Nor am I treated like just a pair of eyes, he takes interest in me personally and my husband has been very impressed with him as well (we are both working professionals). I was impressed with the very detailed health history he took, so it's not just the eyes he's considering. I learned that many health conditions can affect the eyes, and that the eyes can provide a window on the general health as well. I highly recommend this doctor to everyone. I would agree with a previous reviewer, that he is intellectual, and he does not "suffer fools lightly". Treat him and his time with respect and he will do the same. If you are looking for garden variety care, go somewhere else. If you want someone who applies all of his knowledge and care to each case individually, this is the guy. I have always found him to be professional, kind and courteous.

Went to the doctor for the very first time after a referral made by my personal physician. There was barely any wait time, and the staff are fine. However, I was quite disappointed by the end of the appointment after speaking to Dr. Bern. I had major discomfort in my eye, and he could not pinpoint the problem rather gave me a list of possibilities. At the end, he did not propose any solutions and left without taking any action and ignoring what I came for. Like what others said, he appeared annoyed when asking questions and does not like to explain. He smiles alot but speaks sarcastically. Also, when I want to schedule a follow up appointment, I had to wait weeks. When I complained, one of the staff simply told me that I can go see another doctor somewhere else.

This doctor treated my father for a very brief time when we did not know what my father's medical issues were. He was extremely rude to me on several occasions when I tried to speak to him. He got angry when he called me at home and I was not in although I had given him my very detailed scheduled of when and where I could be reached. I was also not impressed to see his female office personnel loitering outside the office building smoking. This gives a very bad impression. Also, the office very crowded and the doctors in this office seem to have no regard for patient privacy. I clearly overheard this doctor discussing a medical issue with another patient in the hallway. Would never go back to this doctor for anything.

my family and I have seen Dr. Bern for years after trying many of the other eye doctors in the area. He effortlessly diagnosed my husband's rare condition, and helped him keep his vision.
