I am writing this review to provide feedback to Dr. Jeffrey Bray, in the hopes that he is more thorough and comprehensive in his patient care.
A colleague of mine, a 40 year old healthy individual, went to Dr. Jeffrey Bray with classic late stage ovarian cancer symptoms. She was in extreme pain and described changes in bowel habits, had visible and extensive distension in her abdomen. She also described issues with indigestion and fatigue.
Instead of probing her with additional questions and taking time to evaluate her, he told her that it was likely an ovarian cyst and to 'come back 'in a month or so'. Several days later, she ended up in the ER as the pain had gotten much worse. A week after that visit, she went back to the ER. This time, the attending physician ordered blood work and a CT scan and diagnosed her with late stage (stage 3) Ovarian Cancer.
She is now getting proper care, but if she had not been persistent in seeking a reason for her discomfort, the disease would've progressed without any chance of saving her life.
Dr. Bray, when confronted with a young woman who is describing typical symptoms of ovarian cancer, act quickly and responsibly. It would have taken you just a few minutes to get a CT scan and a blood test ordered. And then, perhaps, 30 minutes to review the information and act swiftly. As an OB/GYN, you should have the requisite knowledge of, and be familiar with symptoms for, ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer should've been the first possible thing to check for when you had my friend and colleague in your office.
