I had a procedure done by this goof back in 2012. Mocked me when I told her about pain I was experiencing during this procedure (so bad I passed out). Gave NO medications to ease discomfort or anxiety when having cervical biopsy performed. She is impatient, uncaring, and just plain rude. Horrible bed-side manner. This doctor is the reason I am fearful about going back to OB/GYN. Last doctor on earth I would ever recommend.

Had been a 20+ year patient - but have seen the light to end my loyalty to this uncaring doctor.
Concerned more about money than patients. Makes sure that we peons understand that her time is more valuable than our time.

Dr Paula is caring and wonderful. I had an amazing and easy vaginal delivery. She is like a coach and sometimes intense. I care about outcome not if my doctor is always smiling

I saw Dr. SP during my first pregnancy in 2007. She didn't have the warmest bedside manner, but I liked her well enough and she was quick to send me for an ultrasound when I was having a lot of abdominal pain early in pregnancy. (I was nervous it might be an ectopic pregnancy and it was a big relief to rule that out.) As I progressed in my pregnancy and did more reading and had more questions she seemed to become more impatient with me. When I told her I was interested in having an unmedicated birth and asked her about the class I wanted to take, she acted as if it were silly that I'd want to take a class. And when I told her I was thinking about having a doula and asked her how she felt about that, she rolled her eyes and said it was okay if I thought I really needed that. And that's when I decided to switch doctors. . . at 32 weeks. I'm now a childbirth educator and I regularly hear negative things about her. The people who seem to like her a lot are high risk patients and patients who aren't interested in learning about the birth process on their own and are fine to have their doctor make all the decisions. For a woman who has any sort of preferences in birth (even simple things like leaving membranes intact, waiting to go into labor naturally, being able to choose a comfortable pushing position) Dr SP is probably not the doctor for you.

I had a horrible experience with her. She was horrible to me during delivery. Her actions resulted in my having a piece of the placenta left in the uterus. How did she do this? Well she was clearly on a time schedule and unhappy that my delivery wasn't going as fast enough as she'd like. After the birth of my daughter she put BOTH her hands up my vagina and began pulling on my placenta. My heart rate dropped and she just continued while she instructed the nurse to give me meds. How about you get your hands out of me and let the placenta deliver naturally. Because of her actions I was back in the hospital a week later for an infection. I thought I was dying I was so sick. I had to spend the 2 week of my daughters life in the hospital. Dr. Shaffer Polakof is not only rude, bossy, and uncaring, she is a poor doctor and shouldn't be trusted

I've been going to Dr. Schaffer-Polakof for about 10 years now and I just love her. She's really quick with what is an uncomfortable examination. She's also one of those doctors that listens to her patients and understands that we really do know our bodies. I've gone through a lot with her: -difficulty getting pregnant, diagnosis of fertility issues and then treatment of fertility issues -close monitoring of my pregnancy once I was pregnant -referral to endocrinologist when I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes -preparation for c-section (I signed consent papers early on in my pregnancy…just had a feeling that I’d need a c-section) -follow up care after my c-section -hormonal problems – conducting tests to find out why my hormones were out of whack, with an eventual referral to a new endocrinologist – who ended up diagnosis me with polycystic ovarian syndrome She’s a great doctor and she cares about her patients.

Dr. PSP is very casual when interacting with patients. She does not shake your hand and does not have the air of professionalism that many other doctors have. When I asked her questions about pregnancy, she was annoyed, condescending, and even gave bad advice. I don't recommend this doctor.

Today was my 1st appt with her for a routine annual exam and it was the most painful I've ever had. I expected a female doctor to be more gentle than the male doctors I've had in the past but I was wrong. I will not be returning to her.

Dr. Schaffer Polakof is not for everyone. I have had two successful and healthy pregnancies and births with her. She sometimes is gruff or not open about some things, but that is what I need in a doctor, especially when I am pregnant and see everything as a symptom. She does not let me get worked up or worried about things she is not worried about. She only tells me what I need to know and tells me if I'm getting overly upset. If you want someone that is more like your real mother and not your friend, she is the way to go, she tells it like it is.
