If you want a Dr who completely ignores your issue and treats you like you're not worth his precious time, then he's your guy!

Dr. Mortenson is a great surgeon. He's operated on my shoulder twice. He's extremely knowledgeable, but as a patient you need to do your homework. You need to know what questions to ask, and they need to be pertinent to the surgery. Don't come wanting to tell your life story. You should've done all that with your primary care physician. By the time you visit the surgeon, you should already know the risks of the procedure you are contemplating, etc. Dr. Mortenson has a dry sense of humor. I like it, but if you want someone to make you feel all warm and fuzzy, choose a different surgeon. I'm a nurse and I choose a surgeon based on their skills, not their bedside manner. Last, make sure your caregiver is prepared with succinct, pertinent questions post-op. You won't be awake to talk to the doctor, but you'll need the information only he can provide about how your surgery went.

I completely dislocated my shoulder and tore my entire labrum off. Before surgery he was very detailed on my options and explained to me what to expect. I ended up having 11 anchors put in and he did an amazing job! Shoulder is feeling great! I would highly recommend Dr. Mortensen to anyone!

Did my ACL surgery and the Physical Therapist couldn't believe how fast I healed. Surgery went really well and I was back on my feet faster then he even predicted and I really didn't have any pain (which is amazing for this kind of surgery). I'm about 1 1/2 months after surgery and am doing well. Only complaint is that he's kind of dry, but I would take that for how good of a surgeon he is.

He is friendly, skilled, and very knowledgeable, but I had to ask lots of questions to get the information I needed regarding the procedures and risks for my ACL surgery. That information was not provided unsolicited as I feel it should have been. I had waiting times from 45 minutes to well over an hour during appointments.
