I had wonderful results from my cervical surgical fusion of C4-5, that had complications of a 50% deflection of the spinal cord. I also had a 2 inch long fluid bubble in my spine above my deflected spinal cord. Dr Delamarter and Dr Bray returned my life back to normal. I had this procedure done back in 1993. That was before artificial joints were commonly used. I can say his office staff at UCLA treated my great and got me the help very quickly.

I made an appointment to see Dr. Delamarter last fall after verifying my insurance with the office. I recently got a bill stating that they were out of network. I was flat-out lied to by their office and now they are billing me $415 for a 20-minute office visit. Regardless of Dr. Delamarter's medical qualifications, this is a highly unprofessional way to run an office. I would never recommend going to any physician whose office lies to its patients and this is no exception.

Dr. Delamarter did a double laminectomy and vertical fusion at L-3,4,5 on me in 1991. I have been grateful for his skill every day since. The fusion hampered some of the shock absorption qualities of my spine, resulting in damaged disks above and below the fusion which cause pain and immobility when they become inflamed - because swelling causes pressure on the nerves to my legs. But this only happens every three years or so - and is relieved by epidural steroid injections. I am now 70 years old and feeling great! The hardware in my back is still properly in place (not loose). There have been arthritic changes and bone spur growth (I have lost 3 inches in height), but overall, I feel fit and lucky, having had a right knee replacement in 2010 and a gastric bypass in 2011.

Nice guy, recommended more PT to avoid surgery. His was a second opinion and he recommended a double disc replacement and a single fusion which is different from my first opinion. Get at least three opinions if you have surgery.

I had surgery in September 08. The surgery was described as minimally invasive “micro” surgery. Before leaving the hospital I learned that I had a 4” incision and minimally invasive techniques were NOT used. After I got home, I had terrible pain and numbness. Calls to the office were returned by a physician’s assistant. I could never reach anyone without leaving a message. They said my symptoms were normal. I wrote a letter to Dr. Delamarter and the Fellow who assisted him and received no response. I was given 1 month off work, but Dr. Delamarter would not see me until 2 months post op. I had to insist to see him early at 7 weeks. He said to take whatever dose of nerve pain medication gave me comfort and said it was safe. I have significant nerve damage. The nerve pain medicine masked the damage. I was told I will eventually lose the use of my foot. I had to have the surgery redone, and the neurosurgeon said the nerve was “a MESS!”. I do not recommend him. Do not go!

I did the research and he is by far the most experienced Orthopedic Surgeon in the U.S. I just had an artificial disc replacement in my spine and he did an amazing job. He is extremely knowledgeable and will answer any of your questions. Its hard to get in, but that is because he is so good. When you're dealing with the spine you need to be extremely careful in your choice of doctor because your result will be for the rest of your life. I had many questions and concerns and ALL of them were answered before I went into surgery.
