I have been using Doctor Jordana-Alter for almost 15 years, ever since my second child was born. It was a fearful pregnancy, since I had miscarried several times, and had a host of problems with my first child (Different doctor). Avra was wonderful, Her confidence and assurance that everything would be fine was so greatly appreciated. She has been my gyn ever since. I can see where she wouldn't appeal to everyone. She is not a warm fuzzy which is fine with me. She is direct, honest and more than capable. She called me about an biopsy. "Hi this is Avra. First of all everything is fine". Then she went on to explain the findings. Big points for the reassurance right off the top. Since I have been in menopause, i am finding the exams to be a bit uncomfortable. Avra brought in a pediatric speculum to make it easier. I like a doctor who is knowledgable, capable, reassuring and confident. Avra is all of those things. And we've gotten pretty friendly. just takes a few years. :)

I love her and would recommend her to anyone.

When I first met Dr Jordano-Alter, I too thought that her bedside manner was lacking. I found the other doctors in the practice to be much more warm, caring and nurturing. Dr Jordano Alter was the doctor on call when I went into labor - to be completely honest, I was a bit disappointed. My delivery turned out to be quite difficult and dangerous. My son was a large baby and my body too narrow resulting in shoulder dystocia. It was at the very least terrifying. I am more than grateful that she was on call the day I went into labor. I would take her focus, determination, knowledge and muscle over good bedside manner any day. Some doctors make you feel good, she would save your life. I will without a doubt be scheduling a c-section with her for my next delivery.

Other doctors from the practice have chosen her personally, to deliver their babies.

Dr. Jordano-Alter is one of the worst doctors I have ever seen. She has absolutely NO bedside manner. She is cold and aloof. She has a bad attitude. Maybe she has low self esteem, but that's not my problem. She spends no more than 5 minutes with me. I do like other physicians in her practice like Dr. Bond and Dr. Rubin but she is terrible. I hope she does NOT deliver my baby.

She should NOT be practicing medicine. I had to call the after hours line, when I had severe abdominal pain while I was carrying twins. I could hear her kids in the background, she told me I had round ligament pain, take tylenol, and a warm bath. She brushed me off. It was my first pregnancy, and I figured that she must know what she was talking about, since she was supposed to be the professional. I trusted that she would take into consideration that I was high risk, and therefore her brush off was detrimental to my outcome. Since, I felt I had put her out by calling on a Saturday evening, I suffered another night, with no relieve, but called the clinic first thing Monday morning. Then, clueless nurse JOANNA, told me that my symptoms were not pregnancy related, to go see my PC. The PC is a whole other story. Bottom line, I gave birth to my first son at home while waiting for an ambulance. Second son 24 hours later in the hospital. Both died. I was a day away from 22 weeks.

I was not so enchanted by Dr. Jordano-Alter. Long story short, she stopped prescribing birth control pills without having really any information about my history. Her reasoning was that my mother developed ovarian cancer 10 years from my age and that her policy was to stop presribing ten years out. Turns out my mother's cancer was NOT hormonal and birth control has been proven to reduce the risk of ovarian cancer by 50%! (A fact she insisted I was wrong about). Thank God for the genetic counselors at Mass General... and for my extensive research to prove her wrong!

Very clear and concise which can come across as perhaps cold or distant. She was an excellent support when I needed an emergency c-section and my surgery went off without a hitch.

I needed to call the after-hours phone number after I was experiencing heavy bleeding with clots, a high fever, and nausea 2 weeks after a D&C for a miscarriage. I called her the first time and she wasn't very helpful. My symptoms got worse and I called her again and she was really annoyed and ****y and told me to go to the ER because she just wanted to get me off the phone. She didn't have any time to listen to my call the first time and there was a baby screaming in the background so she was very hard to hear. It was a really bad experience and I will probably leave the practice, even though I have had good experiences with Dr. Bond. I couldn't believe how my concerns were treated like a complete annoyance to her.

Started seeing Dr. Jordano-Alter after an experience with another not so great doctor and have no complaints, she is excellent. I had her for two of my pregnancies and now see her on a early basis. She is very to the point, but that is what I like.
