A cautionary tale: I also had an experience of being sent for an unnecessary biopsy. Using the ultra sound equipment in her office, she gave me a diagnosis of Hashimoto's thyroiditis and told me I would have to have my thyroid out, intimating that I had thyroid cancer. She pointed out calcifications, irregular borders on two small nodules, and a node. When I went for the biopsy, I was immediately told that there were no calcifications, one nodule that was too small to warrant biopsy and a cyst, both of which had clearly defined borders. The node was likely a blood vessel, he said, and that there was a less than one percent chance of malignancy. Dr. Olson made a diagnosis and a prognosis in her office without the proof and verification of bloodwork or biopsy results. In the interim I worried needlessly. Her manner is also condescending and cold, though she attempts to fake warmth and compassion.

I went to Doctor Olson for metabolism issues. She did an ultrasound on my thyroid and found a large cyst. She insisted I go for a biopsy, which I did, even though she was sure it was just a cyst. The surgeon who did the biopsy told me that, based on the ultrasound photo, that there was absolutely no reason to biopsy since it was clearly a cyst, but since I was there and she had ordered the test he would go ahead with it. It was painful and unnecessary. The surgeon told me please not to worry - he was sure there was no cancer.
When I tried to discuss my loss of sexual function after having my ovaries removed with Dr. Olson, instead of prescribing hormones, she refused and recommended watching soft porn with my husband instead!

She is condescending an elitist. Likes to practice in Greenwich , CT. Her other, older, patients are too plebian for her.

She is not for everyone. If you can tolerate rude, abrupt and condescending, then she is for you. She hides behind the vail of being holistic and functional, but judgmental and off-putting is just not what I had in mind.

I've been seeing Dr. Olson for many years for an underactive thyroid. She is very well respected in her field by other Doctor's and has many satisfied patients as well. Dr. Olson is passionate about "making you feel better" and asks questions to determine many "pieces to the puzzle" so if you're visiting for the first time, don't be insulted by her questioning. We all know that being over weight contributes to many problems and Dr. Olson takes weight seriously. If she makes assumptions or recommendations, don't be insulted...you are there to feel better and she can help if you let her! Remember, nothing is a quick fix, especially when you are dealing with the Endocrine system, weight, menopause and all of the conditions that cause us to feel lousy...I see her every six months to monitor blood levels and yes, weight! I'm happy to have help!

Went to Dr. Olson for a medical diagnosis and treatment; she told me to lose weight and go for counseling (seemed she was saying my medical condition was my fault) In my opinion a specialist needs to rule out a possible physical disorder BEFORE telling the patient to make lifestyle changes! I did not go back.

Excelllent endocrinologist. Dr Olson is top notch dr to see in her specialty. She goes to extremes to be sure everything is covered when it comes to a pt's overall health. Downfall is takes a long time to get in to see her. It was worth the wait. The only complaint that I have with her office managemnt that handles billing, they are not forgiving when it comes to needing a little extra time to pay off what the insurance didnt cover. One was very very rude to me. Very unprofessional.

I agree with everyone who has posted. Took 1 look at me and asked me why I wasn't smiling - uh... I'm here and not feeling well? Thought my weight (maybe 20 lb overweight) was making me drepressed (so not true), almost impossible to get my records and then found questionable things had been added to them later, was PARANOID about being sued. Her PA at the time was selling herbalife.

I went to her about 4 years ago. but I have to agree with everyone that posted. I never got an official diagnosis of anything she kept it could be this well no it could be this, put me on 4 different kinds of medications which made me sicker than I already was, made me feel like crap about myself due to picking on my weight. And turned me into a guinea pig. I am so happy I left her practice.
