Dr. M has recently retired. I was a patient for over 20 years and really miss him. He cut to the chase when needed, but would actually talk to me...unlike other doctors who have their "7 minute" schedule. He was busy with a large practice, but he was always available within a few days, returned calls after hours, and understood my conditions. Neal, I hope you read this. Have a fun and productive retirement. Pat Mc.

about a year ago, I called into office because of chest pain & breathing problems and reached a rude receptionist that kept raising her voice and trying to schedule an appointment for following week. I told her repeatedly that I had a heart condition but she wouldn't let me see the doctor earlier. I went to a specialist instead and took the later appointment for followup and before I could say hello, the dr. yelled at me for giving his receptionist a hard time and told me to go to another doctor (he didn't want me as a patient any longer! DON'T USE THIS GUY!

I have had him as my doctor for 22 years... from birth to present. I am a healthy person and love that he doesn't jump quickly to a horrible diagnosis. He is caring and although I no longer live in San Antonio, I drive two hours to see him when I need to.

I did not like this doctor at all. He was rude and accused me of being a drug addict because I asked for darvocet. He told me it was addicting and I responded that I don't get addicted to darcocet. "That's junkie talk" is exactly what he said to me. Needless to say, I've never been back and now have a wonder Dr. I have 4 discs that need replacing and RA. I don't think I was asking for much. This guy is a a--!

My mother has had dr. Meritz for many many yrs. I however have not and today was horrific. I have had several conflicts with scheduling on several occasions, and today was another were they not only mixed up the days for me and my brother but the actual date on one also. My mother has never had this problem in all the years she has seen him and he blamed my mom. He was upset because she was upset when talking to his nurse but she did not curse or yell and he was more rude to her than she was to his nurse. If she was wrong in her tone then she was wrong but to be mean back is not right! Then he told her to find another physician when the problem was with me never with her schedule! And EVERY time I had an appointment I waited ATLEAST 2 hrs to be seen for 10 min and he never did any real diagnosing. I told him that her relationship with him over the years is not worth ruining because I am already not coming back and therefore the problem gone. He was still rude and immature!

I find Dr. Meritz to be very nice and knowledgeable. I understand that you can not visualize many complaints over the phone and must send the caller to the ER or med. clinic for after hour calls. Sometimes it is the best thing to do even though you don't realize it at the time. I appreciate and understand this kind of advice. Better to be seen than sit at home and complain.

I don't think this man really cares about his patients. He is constantly telling my family to see the TX Med Clinic or hospital instead of dealing with things himself. He is just too old to want to take care of things and puts it on others to do his job.

He was on call for our family doctor, so wasn't helpful at all. It was like he didn't know what he should do. We took him to emergency room and they sent him home & said it was Bells Palsy; however he got out of bed & fell,I called Dr. Meritz since he was on call for our doctor and he said to just take him back to emergency room as they had good doctors at hospital. Took him back and called in another doctor and he was having a massive stroke, which I tried to tell the doctor and the emergency room doctor, but they thought I didn't know what I was talking about. He is paralyzed due to the massive stroke.

I have been his patient for 35 years. Might say we grew up together in his practice. What do you say about a doctor that saved your life. The steps he and his staff took in my emergency situation saved my life. He continues to keep me healthy and will be my doctor for as long as he stays in practice. His diagnostic intelligence never cease to amaze me. He will perform the proper tests to confirm his diagnosis, but is always correct.

I've been a Dr. Meritz patient for many years and continue to see him even though I'm now living out of state.
