Very poor bedside manner. I saw the doctor for about 10 minutes. He recommended I have an MRI and X-ray (X-ray was a waste of money) and then when I got the MRI results saying I had an ACL tear, his assistant called me about the results, not the Dr. When I asked to speak with him directly he refused and said I had to schedule an appt.

Dr. Gillen is a great doctor. I went to him only describing the pain in my shoulder. He knew exactly what it was but sent me for an MRI to confirm. He repaired my rotator cuff and associated problems. The surgery was successful from what I can tell. He also had me start physical therapy the next day in order to ensure that I would have a complete recovery. I would recommend Dr. Gillen to anyone that needed the type of surgery that I have had.

Dr. Gillen is AWESOME. He not only thinks about the patient, but the family member helping the patient. Answered all questions and treated us like family in his recommendations. He took care of my herniated disc, torn tendon in my shoulder and will do the torn miniscus in my knee shortly, plus my husband's shoulder.

Dr. Gillen and staff are the best. I have had two surgeries with him, one better than the other. If you need anything, all you have to do is call. Complicated procedures are given his upmost attention. I do believe that he is better with knees and hips than he is with other parts of the body...like the spine. A little more research and training in that area would be a good idea for him, unless he is willing to transfer the case to someone with more expertise in that area. My ACL reattachment with hamstring graft went very well, is a little stiff but this is sometimes to be expected. My spinal surgery was a different story. It did not go as planned, at least as far as I'm concerned. Spinal cord was very swollen after the removal of old "hardware" and new replacement. No feeling in lower half of my body upon waking and one month in rehab hospital to get walking again and some feeling back. 7 months out from surgery and still 30% feeling loss in legs, feet and posturer (butt).
