Suzanne is an awesome midwife, and pioneer for midwifery in Utah!

Very unhelpful and unqualified midwife. Suzanne allowed a midwife student to count one patient visit for multiple patient visits so she could get her license sooner. I had a horrible and tramatic experience as her patient. Suzanne is very dishonest and untrustworthy and continues to display absolutley no sympathy for her wrongdoings.

I birthed two children attended by Suzanne and her students/assistants and have great memories of really good experiences. I liked that Suzanne let me direct my own visits with her by letting me ask her questions about research I did myself or just chatting. In labor, she didn't involve herself when I didn't need her and only quietly helped when one intervention was justified. She's speaks very matter-of-factly, which might be a turnoff to other pregnant/laboring moms, but I think she's a very patient midwife.

Suzanne was not professional or polite when I went to her. When I went to the birthing center she said I should transfer for exhaustion. She would not let me stay inside the clinic to decide what to do. I had to wait outside in the car with my husband. It was cold outside and the car was uncomfortable. Would it have killed them to let me sit on their couch? I had already signed the form waiving my right to a refund. In retrospect I see that their policy isn't ethical, women should not have to worry about that when they are in labor. Many women go to her because they don't have a lot of money but end up paying twice as much because she seems to want to transfer everyone unless they have a perfect labor. Suzanne does not share any information unless you ask specifically and doesn't apologize for mistakes.

I selected Suzanne as my midwife after learning that several other preferred midwives in my area were already booked. I was disappointed with my experience with Suzanne for several reasons: 1. She did not provide much, if any, information during my visits unless I asked a very specific question. This was my first pregnancy and I would have appreciated much more info about pregnancy, birthing, her view on birth, etc. 2. She was unkind/rude to several of her apprentices during my visits. Also, I had paid more to see her instead of apprentices, but she had them perform exams frequently. 3. During my birth (at home), she was extremely uninvolved, and the minimal suggestions she provided for issues that arose were not helpful. I felt that she was not competent, or at least did not demonstrate any level of competence, knowledge, or caring for my situation. 4. I was transferred to the hospital, which was very disappointing and could have been avoided as my child was not in distress.

After interviewing and searching up and down for a provider who would bemost fitting to our birthing preference, we decided on Suzanne. The birthing suite was perfect, the ambiance was fitting for what we wanted BUT I must say I was a bit disappointed in Suzanne's lack of involvement in our very active labor. We chose the Hypnobabies method so perhaps she felt no need to intrude but in hindsight I know that I could have definitely used the encouragement. In the end we had to transfer to the hospital and she came with her two apprentices. After laboring actively for 26 hours I delivered vaginally w/in the hour. I wish she would have assessed the situation more thoroughly and perhaps suggested other methods/positions besides transferring. I had 3 other friends who chose her as their midwives around the same time as me and all 3 of us ended up transferring. We all agree we feel she could have been more proactive. Her apprentice at the time was more helpful in my opinion.

I love Suzanne! She has been a wonderful midwife for my last three pregnancies and births. She's very knowledgeable and so supportive! If what you want is a hands-off, natural birth she's a great one for helping you get that.
