I found Carey Ryan to be very knowledgeable and I am so thankful that I found her when I did!

she is no longer in business for a reason! She is a bully, hateful, childish and arrogant. She has no knowledge of ANYTHING, unless of course she feels it's useful. Then she will shove it down your throat and if you so much as look like you disagree, then it's war and you are treated sub standard. Carey and anyone working with her are the typical school yard bullies, play their way and you are fine. Don't play their way and you are subject to more of her bad behavior and mistreatment. She lies, cuts corners, is greedy but cheap and the most self absorbed person I have ever had the horrible honor of doing business with. I have only done business with her, never had a baby with her and from what I understand...I'm very glad of that! No hospital will deal with her, now I see why.

Huge mistake going to Carey Ann Ryan. She's egotistical, she mismanaged our care, and we had to transfer in while in labor. She will mislead and manipulate her into following your advice, and it won't get you anywhere that she says it will.

She never felt the position of the baby she missed all of the warning signs that something was different with this pregnancy even though I voiced many concerns. When I went into labor at 33 weeks she told me the names of 2 hospitals but would not help me decide which to go to or come with me. After laboring in the hospital all night we had an ultrasound that showed we were having breech twins! oops how do you miss twins well according to the hospital staff you use carey ann that's how. After the twins were born she came to the NICU insulted us told us how it was our fault the babies would be never breastfeed most likely would die ect. She lied on the records saying she recommened an ultra sound that would have taken place a day or 2 after they were born. Maybe if she stopped talking abuot how the DR's were driving her out of business she could have done her job. The twins are find and still nursing at 3 so there Carey ann I hope she never delivers another baby again.

Worst mistake of my life having her for my midwife. She was very prideful, I believe Carey Ann put Homebirth as an ideal above me as her patient. I went 3 weeks overdue, which she had encouraged and then when she decided dump me because of a sonogram that pegged my baby at 9lbs 15 oz, she blamed me for "not pulling as hard as (she) was to get this baby out"! I was doing everything in my power to get my labor going. I ended up in the hospital and basically being blackmailed by the Dr. there to have a c-section. It was the most traumatic event in my life and I felt as if Carey Ann was completely smug about the whole thing because I had chosen not to follow all of her diet advice. (she had gone so far as to tell me not to drink milk because "calves gain 300lbs in a year"!) She never mentioned it again until she decided my baby was too big. To top the whole thing off my baby was born at 8lbs 5oz. Nowhere near the 11lb baby she and the Dr. were scared of! I'd never go to her again EVER!!!!

I went to her for 10 years. I only went to her for one pregnancy which was at the end. She was fairly well behaved until my last week of pregnancy, except for throwing some insults to my husband's viewpoint. She did not answer pages, she said very mean things to my children, husband and I. She wouldn't take my insurance which covered her because it didn't pay her enough money. We were transferred to the hospital in the end and had a whole other bill to pay. She knows what she is talking about and it bull headed but is extremely arrogant and rude. She is not in practice anymore but maybe someday she will return...you never know.

She was strict as far as diet went (no junk food, tons of protien, fruits and veggies) but knew what she was doind with birth...or more so what I was doing

Ms. Ryan was very knowledgable in her specialty, but was incredible rude and basically bullied me out of her practice when things were getting very obvious that my pregnancy was no longer appropriate for her practice. She gave no referral and was downright mean in her over-billing of her unperformed services. Though a contract was signed, she charged for a full birth that should have been billed only partial care. She also sent the most minimal of notes to the ob I moved to, making my situation difficult to transfer and never consulted with a physician when things were obviously going wrong, only insinuated that I was causing the problem and would definitely end up with a c-section. Overly aggressive in an un-helpful manner.

Carey is very knowledgeable. However, we did not see eye-to-eye on several issues. When I left her practice, she was not very nice or professional about it. The birth center where she works is beautiful!

Carey is one of the most knowledgeable and experiences midwives in all of Iowa. Her personality is very strong and straightforward. I left her practice b/c we could not see eye to eye on enough matters. However, I would recommend new parents looking for a home or birth center birth to interview her. I have many friends who use and LOVE her. There is no question of her deep knowledge and experience and passion for birthing. She just wasn't the "right" spirit to attend my birth.
