Knowledgeable , very concerned and thorough: sad when he was forced into the Albany Gastro Group. But still an excellent caring doc - not many left like him.

I started with this group and they assigned me to a PA who knew nothing. I asked for a doctor and got Puleo. Although he has always been very nice, he was always unprepared and unfamiliar with me as a patient. He ordered tests and did not know I had them done. He prescribed meds and did not follow up on their effect. I left there after 14 months with no more answers than when I started. Very frustrating and I really don't think he cares...it's all about filling his day with appointments. He seems to overbook. I left this group and am trying to find a doctor who wants to get to the bottom of the problem, not just have me show up every three months so they can bill me....

I have been seeing Dr. Puleo for over a decade and I trust him completely. He saved my life after complications from a gall bladder operation and continues to treat my on-going GERD and IBS. I'm shocked to read poor reviews because I always have an excellent experience with him and I was sad when he switched to Albany Gastro and could no longer be my primary care MD; he did, however, find me a good primary that fits my personality.

I can't figure out why some people report such bad experiences with Dr. James Puleo Jr. He really does know his stuff, he is extremely personable with me, I usually don't wait too long in his waiting room. It is tough getting through to his office, though. I've tried to get through about six times just to get an appointment, and I can't get through. The last time, I called at 10:30AM and got an answering machine which said that the office is closed and the hours are 9:30AM to 4:30PM. Last time I checked, 10:30AM is during those hours.

Dr. James V. Puleo is completely incompetent. Ignored my symptoms, clearly was not familiar with my case and tried to hassle the Emergency Room doctors when I finally ended up there for medical care! Worse, when I switched doctors and obtained my medical records from his office, there were several glaring errors in the info Dr. Puleo had in my charts, including a medication listed that he never prescribed to me and I was not taking. Now I have to repeat an endoscopy/colonoscopy due to his incomplete documentation of those procedures he performed on me. Beware!

I have been going to DR. Puleo Jr for about 5 or 6 years now. I find that he is very knowledgeable, helpful, thorough and caring. I'm very shocked to read some of these other reviews saying the complete opposite.

James Puleo, SR. is an absolute buffoon. He is, simply put, a jerk. He triple-books patients and then acts like you are wasting his time. If you ask questions (or should I say TRY to ask questions), he is rude and condescending. His son, James Puleo, JR is much better and even moved out of his own father's practice because he was fed up. He is in the professional building of Memorial hospital and the experience is the exact opposite. DO NOT go to the older doctor; he is way past his prime (if he ever had a prime).
