Hiring Dr. Nickel was one of the worst mistakes of my life.
There were red flags from the start, I should have run.
My first appointment, I let him know I’m immunocompromised and asked questions about ozone, prp, concerned about my ability to heal from extractions. He kept saying it wasnt necessary. He spent most of the consult pushing me to do anesthesia, which I told him I didnt want. I ended up staying awake and found its not a big deal if you take the benzo they give you. I forgot to take it ahead of time though, and he didnt wait. It was very uncomfortable until it kicked in. He charged me an extra $40 than what I was quoted for the consult, i guess because I had concerns and didnt just mindlessly go along with his little speech routine, even though he dismissed my concerns and spent the majority of the time pushing unnecessary anesthesia.
One of the teeth needing extraction was infected. I could tell the antibiotic I was on was not hitting the infection at all. I wrote him an email about this which he did not read, and brought it up before surgery, but he did not prescribe an alternative.
If you are concerned about “holistic” dentistry- this man is not that. Since i was awake I can tell you I did not notice him scrape all the extraction sites. Only scraped the infected one.
I have chronic illness, & one of my worst symptoms is terrible and persistent brain fog; that cleared up immediately after the surgery. But a few hours later, started to feel foggy again. A considerable amount of pain came back to one extraction site. I developed dry socket despite following instructions meticulously. I kept returning to see him because of terrible symptoms, but he just kept being dismissive and saying I’m cured. Eventually got annoyed with my complaining.
Well later on, I found a piece of tooth while eating. Dentist said he must have left it in the site and failed to notice. Years later, I have daily jaw pain. The brain fog is so bad I’m disabled. I always have a rash on my jaw over the area. The infection seems linked to heart pains. Im in really, really bad shape. I’ve lost years of life and am very concerned about my ability to ever recover from this. Please choose carefully, these dental infections can really kill you. This guy is apparently oblivious of that, or just doesnt care
