My grandparents, my father, and I have been seeing Dr. Otero for over 40 years. I first saw Dr. Otero for treatment of celiac disease when I was 3 years old. Since then, I noticed when I was in high school that Dr. Otero had a bad beside manner when he yelled at my grandmother for becoming nervous at the Baptist. At least this was before my grandmother's passing.
At one time, Dr. Otero seemed to be more caring about 17 years ago. But with the number of patients that he has, I never really got to see him but rather a set of different PAs, physician assistants. I would always wait about 2-3 hours just to get called in for 15-20 minute appointment. Lately, his office would always have problems getting authorizations for any procedures, like any endoscopies or for a colonoscopies to be performed.
More recently, I had to wait 4 hours to see Dr. Otero's physician assistant in October the first week of October. I was supposed to get a colonoscopy done a few days before Halloween. But I had a nurse that insisted I was on drugs. I wasn't, but she made me feel uncomfortable. She told Dr. Otero this and he started yelling and screaming at me to GET OUT OF HIS OFFICE! Despite having insurance, I have been billed over $211.53 for a 10 minute appointment with Dr. Otero's nurse despite waiting 4 hours.
I don't recommend this doctor. He seems rather cold, sarcastic, and he uses profanity at times.
