My grandparents, my father, and I have been seeing Dr. Otero for over 40 years. I first saw Dr. Otero for treatment of celiac disease when I was 3 years old. Since then, I noticed when I was in high school that Dr. Otero had a bad beside manner when he yelled at my grandmother for becoming nervous at the Baptist. At least this was before my grandmother's passing.

At one time, Dr. Otero seemed to be more caring about 17 years ago. But with the number of patients that he has, I never really got to see him but rather a set of different PAs, physician assistants. I would always wait about 2-3 hours just to get called in for 15-20 minute appointment. Lately, his office would always have problems getting authorizations for any procedures, like any endoscopies or for a colonoscopies to be performed.

More recently, I had to wait 4 hours to see Dr. Otero's physician assistant in October the first week of October. I was supposed to get a colonoscopy done a few days before Halloween. But I had a nurse that insisted I was on drugs. I wasn't, but she made me feel uncomfortable. She told Dr. Otero this and he started yelling and screaming at me to GET OUT OF HIS OFFICE! Despite having insurance, I have been billed over $211.53 for a 10 minute appointment with Dr. Otero's nurse despite waiting 4 hours.

I don't recommend this doctor. He seems rather cold, sarcastic, and he uses profanity at times.

Dr Otero is a typical Dr, not saying he is bad but saying that my experience was not like the other people who wrote reviews. I went to see Otero, and it seemed like he was always in a hurry to get to the next patient and out of the room with his current one, I did not get to tell him all my concerns, and he seemed to rush. I have gone to see him on other occasions and with out notice, he was unavailable and on the day of my appointment, I would see the PA walk in, no one even told me or asked if I wanted to see the PA, they just assumed that would be ok. Last thing is the staff is unhelpful, you will be lucky if you can get them to assist you with anything.

The most disorganized office I've ever dealt with. Takes a month to get an appointment (the Phoenix va is probably faster) his assistant Maria is a moron. Totally unhelpful.

I have been a patient of Dr Otero for more an 10 years. I have confident in the care I have received and so lucky to be his patient. I think Dr. Otero is the best,I wish more doctors were like him. He is exteremly intellegent and knowledgable. He takes time and listen to the concerns of his patients. He is up to date on the most recent treatment options. He is kind and patient and when you feel hopeless, he tells you that new treatment options are being worked on and that it is a matter of finding the best treatment for you.I think he is kind to his staff and all of his staff tell you how good his is to work. He really cares about the patients and his staff. I have been a patient of his for such a long time I have had the pleasure to see how consistent his is in his manner. He is always kind, supportive and caring. Dr. Otero has a large group of patients because he has way of putting you at ease and letting you know that he is there to help. He's great. Thank you Dr. Otero.

I just started seeing Dr. Otero, and I'm already so grateful I found him. He's very knowledgable and an out-of-the-box thinker, which is necessary with Crohn's. He's very professional and takes the time to answer all of my questions. His staff is also kind and competent. (My only complaint is that I had to wait several hours before my colonoscopy, but at least they warned me about that ahead of time. My office appointment ran on time, and you don't have colonscopies every day, so I'll put up with the wait for that.) I think with Dr. Otero I will definitely get the appropriate treatment for my Crohn's.
