Nothing like his father, who was a great surgeon. Dr. Kane came to surgery unprepared, failed to do what he promised and made things worse. Failed to inform me of the diagnosis following surgery - I learned it by getting the hospital records myself.

Dr. Kane is an excellent, skilled surgeon. I am very glad I chose him as my surgeon for a complex bariatric procedure. I have read other reviews, and I do see some imperfections - several of his staff are excellent, some not quite as good with follow up. I do believe he builds up and tries to surround himself with excellent staff so that he can concentrate on what he does best - most have been excellent and one of the ones that wasn't suddenly wasn't there any more. He can be a bit brief at times, but he also took time to answer all my questions. He is extremely busy and in demand, and does get called upon for emergency surgeries frequently. One of my appointments was rescheduled because of this, and my surgery was moved 5 days due to a schedule change. Both times the communication from his office was good and helpful at rescheduling. Post-op follow ups have been with his PA's - I can ask to speak to Dr. Kane if I want to at the follow up, but if nothing is wrong they don't bring him in without you asking. For his bariatric practice, he has built up a complete program to help you prepare for, succeed, and have follow up support afterward - his focus is the surgery, but he brings in other experts to see you through preparation and follow-up.
If you want the best surgeon for a procedure, he is going to be really busy and rely heavily on his staff. That is Dr. Kane. He is not like a general practitioner - he mainly handles the surgery and most pre and post surgery non-emergencies are handled by other people. You can probably find surgeons that are less busy and maybe seem more attentive, but he is in high demand for a reason. Are they others as good as him at what they do on the operating table? That is not the only question, but it is a very important question.

Dr. Kane has cancel my appointments, and rescheduled my surgery last minute. He was really late to surgery when I was the first appointment that morning. I would not recommend him!

Dr Kane is GREAT,, nice and caring did a wonderful surgery for me all is healing well (small scar). HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! YOU do have a waiting time but its worth it. VERY busy Doc. Staff is friendly and does try to help when you have any questions. I do wish he had a bigger waiting area I waited out in the hallway (ELK GROVE). No worries I was comfortable there was a chair just for me. Thanks for being a DOCTOR and helping me to be healthier and Happier. oooxxx's,, Joy

I have always found Dr Kane to be polite and time giving. I have had two surgeries performed by him. Was having issues recently went and saw him, again very polite, gave me time, answered questions. sent me for tests. I have put 6 phone calls in for results, talked with PA who was of NO help to me at all! Dr. Kane tried to call once, when I could not get to the phone, he never tried to call back. that was after the 4th phone call, have placed 2 more calls into him NO response!! I even told his nurse I have never had a doctor or office make me feel so unimportant! I picked up my results myself from ythe hosspital and will be seeing another docotr.

Filled out nine page questionaire which he didn't even look at. Saw me for 5 minutes and was very flip, insincere and impersonal. Would not go back to this physician.

I was very happy with my visits to him. He answered all my questions I had prior to my Lap Band Surgery and checked up with me while I was still in the hospital. Follow up visits were usually on time with only one time having to wait about 45 min. due to a patient emergency. I have had 2 minor problems since surgery in May of 2011 and both were taken care of the same day I called. I am possibly going to need more surgery in the future and I will use Dr. Kane again. He may seem abrubt at times, but he always takes time to answer all my questions and ask me about some I have not even thought about.

Totally agree with the so-so reviews. He is a very good surgeon but extremely busy. He does seem moody, Sometimes he is nice, polite, and helpful, and other times he is rude, short, and in a hurry. Overall, he does a great job... but be prepared for Jeckle/Hyde syndrome. He relys too much on office staff who are sometimes not well trained.
