Just want to put in a good word for Dr. Hollis that has now passed away. When RK surgery was the type you had to correct vision, a friend of mine that also was legally blind had had her eyes corrected and had 20/20 vision. This was also a guarantee at that time. I called, they sent me a tape to watch, and it was very thorough. Dr. Hollis was one of the pioneers of RK Surgery. I had my surgery in 1990 . He told me I was so bad it would take the first surgery and probably 2 enhancements, a month apart. He was right. Was 20/80 after first surgery. 20/50 after second and 20/20 after the last. Severe astigmatism was also 100% gone. So I had 2 vision problems distorting my vision. He had done over 10K eyes experimentally before this. That was his specialty. I never heard of a single complaint, in fact, I had never known what it was to see, and he changed my world at 38 years old. I'm almost 71 now and there has been some change as he told me there would be, it happens to everybody as you get older, but I'm still in such better condition to see than the first 38 years of my life when I could see almost nothing. I think most of the people complaining here had the lasik surgery and that was a switch for Dr. Hollis. Then he got cancer, but seems he continued to work as long as possible. It's unfortunate that some people were unhappy with their lasik results but you won't find anybody disappointed with his RK results because they were 100% perfect. I'll be forever thankful for what he did for me and was so sorry to hear he passed.

Only because zero is not an option. Destroyed my eyesight and had major infection! Had to go to another doctor to have my vision corrected. Took nearly thre years before I was completely healed! Steer clear of this guy!

Best money I ever spent. He fixed me 10 years ago and I've never had one issue. Truth.

My daughter Jennifer had eye surgery today with Dr. Hollis. I was skeptical after reading reviews from this page. We decided to go ahead and do the consultation. The waiting room was packed with patients and family members which was comforting. I watch the staff be kind to everyone and genuinely concerned about everyone's questions and concerns. I want to add ...Steve is rather amazing especially since he is the first one you meet for testing. Then the infamous Dr. Hollis was kind, considerate, smart, confident, and informative. When I walked out I knew that she was in the best care possible. I watched my daughter literally come out of surgery with a huge smile --- saying I can see better right now than I ever had. What a beautiful moment for a mother.. Thank you Dr Hollis and wonderful staff.

Recently had lasik surgery with Dr. Hollis 2 weeks ago and everything seems to be shaping up nicely. So glad to not have to wear contacts anymore and to be able to look across the bed to see the alarm clock and to watch tv.

I had Radial Keratotomy, the precursor to LASIK in 1991, performed by Dr. Stephen Hollis at The Eye Institute in Columbus GA. I was -650 in one eye and -625 in the other. I had been wearing glasses since 1st grade. I started wearing hard contacts when I was 9 years old because my eyes were changing so rapidly. When gas permeable came out, I switched to them. I had lost one of my gas perm lenses but had an eye appt in the next two weeks, so I did not reorder the missing contact. I went and saw my eye doctor and asked if I could wear soft lenses. He agreed and within a year and a half, I had giant holes in my corneas of both eyes because they were not breathing properly. I tried to go back to gas perms, but discovered I could no longer wear any type of contacts. I was stuck in glasses and they were so thick, I would literally run into walls because everything appeared curved and I had no peripheral vision. Dr. Hollis was my last hope. I remember after I had the surgery, I could see better but I had a long way to go. My daddy kept asking if I could read signs and I was like NO!! When I went in for my 2 week checkup, I was 20/20 in both eyes. To actually see the details of leaves on the trees was just amazing. He literally saved my life. I have just now started wearing glasses again in the past two years. I am becoming far-sighted, not due to age, but as a side effect of the RK. But I wouldn't change almost 30 years of perfect vision for anything. Thank you Dr. Hollis! You saved my life! He is the greatest eye surgeon in the Southeast. My brother-in-law had the ladik about 15 years ago and still has 20/20 vision. It is really a shame what Columbus and the feds did to Dt. Hollis. He is a fine man and an exceptional pioneer in the field of corrective eye surgery.
