Not a fan of Dr Mc Donald, tried to diagnose different medical issues with no symptoms related to them. Needs more education with pumps as she wasn’t aware of how the Medtronic 780 worked. Bed side manner is not good as well, will not be returning as a patient!

I've been looking for a place to leave a review this doctor or message her directly. This was almost 15 or 20 years ago, but I'm still struggling from an interaction with her. I had told her I thought there was something wrong with my energy level and my mental stamina, and I was severely struggling with university and was feeling different than I ever had and thought I needed to be checked out for a disability. She laughed in my face, told me I needed to grow up and basically sent me out her door. Just this year, I found out that I do have a rare disease called 22q (which involves adhd, autism, multiple autoimmune disorders, and lack of oxygen leaving my energy and mental capabilities depleted). After multiple breakdowns and burnouts, that have now left me more fatigued and unable to participate in parts of life, I'm hopefully getting the help I need from doctors who actually listen, consider more than what you look like and how you present, and hopefully I can enjoy life with what's left of it.

She definitely was my first step in NOT receiving the help I needed. And then felt like I shouldn't talk to my doctors about how I was truly feeling and functioning because they wouldn't believe me and laugh in my face, as she did. And here I am almost 40 dealing with the fallout of it all now. I see other reviews here of her laughing in their face upon talking about sensitive matters. This woman shouldn't be able to practice especially with kids and teenagers and they're growing and formulating years.

I'm very grateful for Dr. McDonald's expertise and focus! She listens carefully and helps me learn about late onset type 1 diabetes. Her team has been my lifeline to health. I think some people might be put off by her directness and professionalism but she is really a wonderful researcher as well as a doctor. Go to this doctor if you really want help with this scarey disease and are willing to put in the work to learn as much as you can.

She's really good for the patient who is looking for a respectful, mature relationship. I've had T1D for many years. Dr. McDonald recognizes this and understands that I'm not looking for needless fear mongering or haranguing. I've never had an endocrinologist who valued my input as much as she does. Provides encouragement, asks if I have any questions, gives straightforward, honest feedback, asks when I want to see her next, provides generous refills on prescriptions and says to just call if I need anything. The office responds quickly and courteously to inquiries. No wait and doesn't waste my time.

I can't believe she isn't rated much higher. She is the perfect doc for me.

Some might find her a little coarse but I rather enjoy her matter of fact demeanor. I feel she talks to me rather than at me and takes the time to explain clearly and concisely my condition and treatment plans/ options

When I told her I was unable to afford tresiba , I was told by Dr. McDonald I should get money off my parents to pay for her prescriptions and would deny care if I were too go with a less expensive long acting insulin, laughed at me and told me good luck in finding any help as I was leaving, I'm glad to have found help elsewhere. Hopefully she is able to help in some cases otherwise it is totally criminal having people like this in any form of healthcare.

I have been a patient of Dr McDonald for 10 years. She has been excellent to work with with as we changed doses and made adjustments to my insulin and routines. She is incredibly knowledgeable and always has input that is helpful to my diabetes management. She is blunt and to the point, but knows her stuff. She has even helped me by suggesting funding programs. Would highly recommend Dr McDonald if you are looking for an endocrinologist who is intelligent and will work with you to improve your diabetes management. Would not recommend Dr McDonald to someone who is lackadaisical about their diabetes management.

I have never had any of the problems outlined by others. My experience with Dr. McDonald have always been positive. She is helpful with suggestions to manage my diabetes, my obesity and overall general health.

Dr. McDonald has a "team" of students who she mentors and they are actively engaged in the appointments - just as it should be in a teaching hospital! I have never found her to rude or condescending. I would have NO PROBLEM recommending Dr. McDonald to others, based on my experiences over the last 6 or 7 years.

Doctor was not interested in determining the cause of my sudden onset MODY diabetes. She was not aware of new experimental therapies that have been in the media over the years. Prescribes LANTUS which is known to cause cancer in lab animals (albeit in doses not usually prescribed). Intern doctor students conduct most of the appointment and who also provide no answers, as they don't seem to be permitted to give their opinion. Adds nothing you couldn't get from CDA website. Unlike other reviewers, I did not find her particularly rude, although she seems uninterested in patient experience.
